Sony is VGN C2S
Comp is approx 18mths old
It doesnt seem to be sticking?
I'm not sure if its a button problem or a software problem?
Are Sony laptops prone to have this issue?

It sounds to me like a hardware issue. But you can try to un-install the touchpad device and let Windows re-installing it.

And no, any notebooks can experience this issue, from any brands any models.

Things fail for any brand notebook.

If you have a chance run Ubuntu linux to verify if it is a hardware or software issue.

More then likely is hardware but I have seen OS corruption cause issues...
