[WTB] Replacement video card for Dell Inspiron 9400 / E1705

Hi guys,

I kind of urgently need a replacement video card for my Dell Inspiron 9400, as the current nVidia Go 7800 GPU has started to show artefacts / glitches (although intermittently at this stage).

I would prefer an ATI x1400 128 Mb card for around $120 USD or lower (including shipping & handling to Australia).

If you don't currently have an ATI x1400 for sale, I will consider other suitable replacement video cards provided they are priced reasonably if they have been used.

Please let me know if there are other places that people might be selling the ATI x1400 video card at. I am beginning to get desperate.

Cheers,
Digitalman

Digitalman,

Unfortunately, since KSMB ripped me off by selling a dud card, I need to hang on to my X1400 for the time being. If he were to refund my money, then I could purchase a working high end card from ebay and I'd let you have my X1400 for the price you are asking.

I own four e1705's and three M1710's but they are all used in my business and so I need to keep them all up and running.

I filed a complaint with paypal and I'll let you know if my X1400 becomes available for you again soon.

Thanks for the reply, Acclimated, and also for your helpful comments in threads related to Dell 9400 video card issues.

At this stage, the display glitches have gone away temporarily after baking in the oven. I am afraid it won't last long as I do see artefacts from time to time. Just enough time to recover the data onto an external HDD.

I will most likely wait and see how things pan out for you with regard to a refund. Hopefully, you will sort it out in the next week or two, or earlier.

Thanks for your heads up on KSMB. If I hadn't come across your posts in your dealings with him I may have ended up in the same situation as you. It is very unfortunate and somewhat unbelievable that you have been ripped off by a fellow NBF member.

Hey Acclimated,

A couple of quick questions!

The ATI x1400 128 Mb video card is powerful enough to:

1. Drive my WUXGA (1920 x 1200 resolution) panel. I noticed in one of the pictures that you had posted in my other thread on this topic, you are driving a WXGA+ LCD panel.

2. Drive an external LCD panel at the same time @ 1920 x 1200 resolution (e.g. Dell 27" LCD panel)

?

It is better to make sure completely, rather than be sorry later.

Digital Man,

The x1400 is NOT a gaming card.

However, it is quite capable of doing most all needs other than heavy gaming. I can stream video from the VGA out port to my 42" plasma TV and watch netflix movies from my wireless network...

Also, since I disassembled all seven of my Dells, trying to seat the junk card that was sent to me, I ended up putting the x1400 into a machine with a 1920x1200 screen.

Here's a screen shot. I am also hopeful that I will have this matter with KSMB resolved quickly as well. I plan on contacting my credit card company tomorrow. Hopefully they will be able to expidite this matter faster than paypal.

I'd prefer to put another 512 MB card into one of my machines, to upgrade from the x1400. In order for me to render concert light shows in 3d, real time, I need the 512 MB video cards. The 256 MB video cards are only capable of rendering in 2d and that doesn't cut it for my applications.

I am fully aware of this. I barely have enough time for sleep these days let alone play games.

I guess the most graphic intensive task I do on my PC / Mac these days are use photoshop, and watch a few movies or TV shows (if I ever find the spare time).

Fantastic. Does it also have a DVI out video port?

I would be running the same setup with this card.

Keep up posted. Make sure more people know of the bad experience you have had here with that particular forum member so that they don't end up in the same position.

It is a good thing you have decided not to go with a 7900GS card with a single heat pipe. On almost all notebook forums, I am reading about high failure rates of the 7900GS cards due to overheating (almost all of them are single heat pipe models).

Thank you once again for your reply.

Hypermemory

One other question: For the ATI x1400 video card some review sites say 128MB VRAM, and others say 256MB VRAM with Hypermemory.

I am guessing it is really just 128MB physical VRAM, and the rest comes out of the system RAM as far as hyper memory is concerned. Right?

"Hypermemory" ... another marketing jargon? (ala hyper-threading)

Hi Acclimated,

Did you have any luck getting a refund from KSMB or sorting the matter out with your credit card company?

Please let me know if the ATI x1400 card is still likely to be for sale by end of this week or earlier.

Thank you in advance.

Cheers,
Digitalman

Hey I might have an X1400 i'd be willing to sell. My laptop just crapped out on me, and I'm looking at parting it, or selling it whole. It's an E1505, so I don't know if the card is compatible with the e1705

They wouldn't be compatible. Thanks anyway for the offer. I guess I will have to source one from eBay land after all.

:bump:

Anybody with a *working* 128 MB ATI x1400 video card that they no longer need?
I would keep checking ebay - cards for these laptops appear all the time.

just search E1705 and you should get some results

Almost all of them don't ship outside the US. :-(
I have tried contacting a few sellers on e-Bay.

Hence, I am trying to see if anyone would be willing to sell their spare working card here at NBF.

Very unlikely you still need a card but I have 7900gs from a 9400 available (Malaysia)

Thanks but no thanks. The 7900GS are more prone to failure due to overheating. If you have the 7800 Go or a compatible ATI card I will be interested.
Ah ok. I had the opposite - 7800 was too hot

Hmmz. Okay! But why are you selling your 7900GS?

I have already been burnt once. I bought a replacement 7800Go card which stopped working after 2 weeks. It turned out the unethical person just sold me his faulty card after performing a "bake in the oven" fix.

I was having mb issues (not video) and the last straw was a 2inch drop on my desk that killed the mb.

If you need a card the 7900 is a good choice. If its DOA I'll refund all your money. 30days I can also but not shipping as I'll still want the part returned. If interested make an offer. Your risk for 30 days? Return shipping! I bear the risk of bad install.

Shipping cost will be actual born by you from Kuala Lumpur. Paypal is no problem.

Otherwise no issues on my end if you get something else. No worries.

I already sent some of the parts to my brother with same model so its already torn down. If he didnt already have the same card I would just send it to him.

Sounds good so far. As for a bad install, you need not worry. I take the utmost care with all electronic equipment I own.

Questions:
1. Your price (in USD or AUD)?
2. Estimated shipping cost from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Melbourne, Australia (in USD or AUD).
3. Is it a dual heat pipe model, which means I will need to use a dremel on my I9400 chassis?

Let me make up my mind in a few days, and I will get back to you.
