Replace M1730 for XPS 16?

My laptop is still having heat issues and they told me I could exchange the M1730 for a new XPS 16 with the 4670 and 1080P screen... I asked about the M17x and he says they cannot switch brands (LIE!) So should I take this or push for a M17x?

EDIT:

My system's specs:

Core 2 Duo Merom T7800 (2.6GHz, 4Mb L2)
2Gb 667MHz RAM
2 Geforce 8700M GT's in SLI
Ageia PhysX M100
17" WUXGA
80Gb 7200RPM HDD (I know the Hard drive is tiny lol)

Absolutly push for the M17x, and it has already been done for a few members here

That XPS16 is not even a close replacement for the M1730.

GPU is weaker and only offers a single GPU, the screen is smaller, and it is a much cheaper laptop

Call back and escalate the issue, and keep doing so until you get either get the M1730 repalced or repaired with a proper laptop

and remind the rep about these points below.

The M1730 is a gaming laptop - the XPS16 is not

the M17x is the only gaming laptop dell has now, so it should be replaced with the M17x

this has been happening alot lately don't let them push into a studio 1640. a step back doesn't justify your intent to move forward.

it shows these idiot CSR reps don't know crap about laptops, they think because the XPS16 has the XPS in the name it is a substitute for the m1730 XPS

Well I pushed for a M17x and he approved (hehehe) and I got him to guarantee SLI dual video cards , 2.6GHz or more CPU, and a WUXGA screen. I'll post the official specs when I get them on Dell.com. Thanks Faint and Dave

Sigh

They are saying that they cannot switch over brands... I'm getting sick of this, let's see what they say to the BBB.

which is funny considering several here have already had it done.

From what I can see, this is purely a business decision to maximize profits (or, in this case, minimize losses). With every BRAND NEW m17x they send out the door as a replacement, they lose the profit margin they could have made as revenue on that system, which, for high end systems, I expect is very large. Instead, they offer the SXPS 16 (may new, maybe refurbished) first as their loss of one of these would be much less than that of the m17x. Only if they customer pushes hard enough and flatly denies the SXPS as a suitable replacement do they resort to the m17x.

The XPS16 is a POS, wonder how many may have been duped to accept it as a replacement for the M1730

Well, I didn't file a BBB complaint yet because the Supervisor called back saying he's sending the M17x with a single GPU saying the SLI 8700M GT is not dual cards. So I yelled at him and he said he's sending me the dual GPU's again. And they gave me a a few more useless numbers. But, I have a question... does dual GPU's mean 260M SLI, 9800M GT SLI, or just a single 260 with the intergrated 9400M?

ahh well now they are getting freaking technical on you. 8700 SLI is two cards, two seperate cards, on one board not like a dual core as these are two seperate cards it is just they are on a single board and share the bus. now the m17x i think has two seperate identical cards that go in two diffrent slots

But can they still send me the 9800M GT's?

He said it's gonna have two Nvidia cards in SLI but I hope they are not 9800's. I'll just wait for the order number I guess.

Did they ever have the 9800's as options??
not in the M17x

They had the Crossfired ATI 3870s, then the GTX260 and 280
