m1710 and Win 7 - Page 2

Only trouble I had was the wireless (4965) on my Win 7 1710 cutting out (but auto reconnecting) every 30 min or so.

Downloaded latest Intel wireless driver for Win 7 and problem gone. Otherwise it's been very nice with Win 7. Quite happy I made the switch.

As for the hardrive partition, I installed Win 7 on a new hardrive, saving the old for warranty issues. New 320's aren't all the pricey these days.

My M1710 is running Windows 7 with 0 problems.

All of the stock drivers work fine, but you can update them with the Dell Vista M1710 ones if you want.

Video wise I used NBF Se7en and it works great.

@ Maconi & Fxi

Thanks for the good news. I'll upgrade as soon as I get a new HD (probably after the holidays), keeping the original Vista HD as a backup in case I have to send this system in for something (though this last GPU replacement has lasted for 8 months so far, it may just beat the original GPU's record of 14 months before frying; I can only hope as I really don't want to deal with Dell while I'm balancing classes this semester).

I've been trying to keep my gpu as cool as possible with powermizer and downclocking for games. I just play bf2 anyways, so it's not like it needs to be at 800mhz core.

It still hits 85C though, with AS5ing. Maybe I did it wrong? too much? too little? I can reopen it up no prob.

did you remove the fans and clean them out completely ?

Yeeep.

I would try the AS5 stuff again. A small drop goes a long way.

cheers ...

Ill try in a few days

well based on your sig i would say that 85c is what you can expect from a 7950gtx mine can reach 95c playing l4d so 85c playing bf2 seems resonable, also the fact that you overclock the cpu wich share the same exaust as the gpu on the left side so the combination of oc gpu and cpu id say 85c is fine if you have the default thermal paste and pad you could be able to lower by maybe 5c max.

at least that is what i think!

@ 85 it will work for a time, then it will start to give BSODs and memory problems.

With a properly cleaned, AS5 thermal solution you should be able to keep the temps under 80 easily, I had mine running @ 65 under load.

If you hitting 95 you very close to the thermal shutdown threshold.

I would suggest a laptop cooler ASAP

i had one but the effect on temprature were only visible in idle mode i am currently designing a replacement hsf out of copper that will use the heat pipe from the current mounting plate it will raise the weight a bit but should offer better performance.
65c are pretty good temp for a m1710
