Agreed Nonya. At this point I would really prefer a system replacement. If I wait for the part I will have had my motherboard, memory, lcd panel and video card all replaced. It is only a matter of time before something goes again. Who knows if it will even work after that.

My M1710 is still going strong after a few years, glad I never got stuck with a M1730. My CC expires early next year and I'm not sure if I'm going to bother spending $300-500 to renew it if I have to go through all those hoops to get a real replacement.

They seem to have the 8700's in stock but I refuse to take that as an option. They all say that it is due to a significant increase in demand for the parts. Since they had shut down production of the M1730, replacement parts are sparse. My service request by a supervisor was a complete and utter lie of 3-5 business days. Fricken Dell needs a wake up call and see that the only reasonable replacement computer is the Alienware M17x which under contract is equal or in this case better as there are no other options at this point. In total I will have lost 5 weeks with no laptop which is in no way a reasonable waiting time.
Keep calling and push for a replacement, escalate the issue each time.

Called dell back. They have all my info and my demand for a replacement system, more specifically Alienware. They said I will hear from upper management anywhere from 24-48 hours, or by tomorrow. Hope for the best. If I get my request granted, I will post my process in more detail for others in a similar situation.

I tried the number but nothing happens, Damnit. I deserve a new system just for the 50 times I was promised a call back. Calling again now.

Pounce them good, and keep pouncing. It is a shame, period, as far as customer support concerns.

cheers ...

Just got off the phone. My deal is the following. The manager noted on my account that if by October 5th they do not recieve the gpu, then I will be granted a replacement system of equal or better parts. I have his personal number and he will be calling me with updates over the next two weeks. Guess this is the best I can do at the moment. Beyond that date though, I will be getting a new computer if it does not come in. I feel slightly better now but that is the best I can get out of them. :/

Again he offered the 8700's or a studio 16. I denied again. The Deadline has been set. Thx guyz for listening.

MAJOR UPDATE: Went onto Dell chat to check the status of October 5th delivery of 8800m gtx for my M1730. Tech told me now it is October 15th..... First he tried to tell me they would ship me 8700's to tide me over. I said **** no. Then I informed him of my agreement with a supervisor. It was noted on my account. He then said "I have contacted my Supervisor. We can go ahead and provide a system exchange." He said it would most likely be an Alienware. He says in 6-7 days I will have the specs. He said the total time will be 25-30 days to get. He is saying though that the system will be refurbished as they do not give out new systems beyond 21 days of purchase... What do you guys think. My M1730 replacement was not a refurb. Should I fight this? Any advice?
The M17x are so new there really may not be many if any refurbs out there.

Either way they are entitiled to provide a refurb unit as a replacement under the terms of the warranty.

If they are offereing a M17x i say go for it, and see what they do indeed send.

Ill just wait and see. But if it is a refurb why would it take 30 days as the tech said? Wouldn't they have it on stock if it were already built?
