Well I haven't been on this forum in 2.5 years and used to be religiously..........that being said I didn't read every post listed for this topic.
On 10/6/09 my video on my XPS M1730 died. I believe I'd been having problems with the video for probably at least the 2 years I've owned it. It got to the point where if I was playing WoW at least once if not more time the game would hang for about 10 seconds or longer. Wouldn't bother me as much if I didn't spend a lot on the machine and it wasn't speced to be a high performer.
I called Dell on 10/6/09 (Tuesday) and after talking to them for an hour and being on hold twice for at least 10 minutes a piece I was told the part would be shipped over night and a tech should call me the next day to setup a time to come to my house. I verified that this would actually be a possibility.
Next day, no call. I called the 3rd party service provider and they told me they didn't have the part yet. So I called Thursday and the 3rd party service provider said Dell hadn't shipped it. So I was actually able to get Dell's online chat program to not error out and the tech told me they were on back order and a shipment would be in Friday and it "shall" be sent out for me. Friday comes around and no update on the site so I called Dell, since the online chat was broken again, and I swear I was talking to the same person from Tuesday when this all started, but I didn't lead on (I think she's in training).
Basically the bottom line is that only 27 video cards came in and she couldn't tell me if I was one of the people that was going to get one of them or not. If not then the next shipment wasn't expected to come in until November. I was like so I have to go a month without my machine and she said they could send out a "down graded" video card until mine comes in.
I'm mad the card is on back order for that long, but not near as mad at that as I am that I wasn't told they were on back order from the beginning. The tech said she'd call me in two days. The odds of that happening are like me winning the lottery.
I used to swear up and down to my friends and family about Dell's, but this whole experience is making me thinking about going else where. I've purchased 4 Dells (3 laptops and 1 desktop). This XPS is the youngest and most expensive and the only one I've had issues with. I still have a 4 year old Inspiron 9300 that is rigged with the 2004 XPS video card and XPS bios. Never had any problems with it aside from it not seeing the hard drive apon boot because the BIOS doesn't support the older technology. I expect that and no biggie.
I think the only positive thing about this is that my desktop has been dead for about 2 years or so and this is finally giving me the motivation to RMA a couple parts to get it fixed. I expect that I can RMA my parts and get the replacements and the machine fixed before Dell even has a clue when the next shipment of the XPS video cards will come in
I don't expect anyone to read all that I said, but I at least feel better venting my frustrations
