Travelmate 2423 screen not working

Hiya

I've just taken apart this machine for a friend, to blow the dust out of the fan (and there was quite a bit). This machine seems to have a severe cooling problem (which I've seen reported elsewhere - fan doesn't seem to go into a big acceleration like a sigh every so often, when probably it should).

Putting it all back together again, and the machine powers on but the screen doesn't work. Anyone have any idea what the problem might be? I was very careful to anti-static myself during the process, so I doubt I've damaged anything.

I even got the service manual from nodevice.com before I started.

There seems to be a little single-leaf spring with a stalk on it that gets pushed down when the screen is closed. Obviously this would switch the screen off. This may have become distorted. Trouble is, I can't tell whether it works like

a) spring must contact upper contact (if any, very small) for screen to be ON

(empty space......... i_____________ this is the leaf spring

or

b) spring only switches screen off if pushed down to the bottom

The service manual doesn't seem to reference it at all.

Or is there something else I could have damaged accidentally? Any diagnostics to figure out what might be wrong?

many thanks

remove the middle cover. if there is still no image on the screen you messed something up. go back and examine everything.
