Question about using WAIK to repair Windows Vista

I've got a problem with Windows Vista not allowing me to boot Vista and whenever I try to use WINPE, it says something about the BOOTMGR being missing...

If I use a WAIK disc which I burnt today, while that help me repair the Master Boot Record or is there anything else that can help me boot Windows Vista again?

I know the data on the hard drive is safe as I checked it via a external caddy plugged into another computer, if that's any help...

WAIK i think has the tools to do it, if you dont have a Vista disc to access WinRE (which has more tools than WinPE), i havent explored all the features of a WAIK disc tho since I only made one to do image backups.

in any case, a simple "bootrec /rebuildbcd" should fix it

On a related note, I've tried using the WAIK and I've got a message saying "a disc read error occured. Press Ctrl-Alt-Del to restart".

What should my next course of action be?

hmm doesn't sound like yours got built right. try the one these guys prepared:

and "bootrec /fixboot" should do it too actually, without the extra step of having to rescan and rebuild the BCD list that "/rebuildbcd" does

Thanks for the link... I'll download it via UTorrent Portable...

EDIT: I can't download U Torrent Portable at all as my local library has blocked access to it...

Are there any other sites where I can download it without requiring a torrent download...

I guess I'll just have to download it to my Samsung Omnia using the BT program I have for it then copy it to my USB stick or to the hard drive at the library and burn it onto DVD there...

On another note, if I follow your instructions with this DVD, I might not need to use the WAIK DVD after all?

and if you would host it somewhere like Mediafire (free and not torrent) for other members?

I would say yes - no need for the WAIK.

cheers ...

yes, WAIK just lets you prepare this utility and some other utilities for specialized situations. the WinRE is an extension on top of WinPE, and is the foundation of the Vista disc itself, and thats what you would usually use to perform this operation.

I've burnt the ISO onto a DVD [although I'll buy some blank CD's just in case] and fingers crossed that this will work...

I can't get onto any host sites like MediaFire as my local library has blocked them although I'll be more than happy to upload the ISO when I fix my laptop...
