New battery for First Gen MacBook Pro

Hello, everyone! I need to replace a battery in my First Generation MacBook Pro. Is new battery released for latest MacBooks Pro is going to be compatible with it? Or I have to look for a First Gen battery (A1189)?

Thank you.

As long as it says that it can replace the A1189 model, I do not see why not.

But does it say that it can replace A1189? You see, I live in Ukraine and we do not have an official Apple representative, so I can not ask them or go see for myself. When I try to call the support in US, they keep me on hold for 20 minutes (and I pay more than $2 per minute on my international call). I tried to check the tech info for battery on Apple site - in a description it only says compatible with 17" without referral to generation.
I have an opportunity to buy the battery, but I really hate to pay $150 for something that won't match my notebook (gosh, where did $75 battery gone, it looks like it was only yesterday...)

Link to where you want to buy? You might be even to get more info from Apple Europe.

The battery in the newest MBP will NOT work in the first gen.

Check ifixit.com for more info.

Any specific reasons for it? Even though the part mentions replacement for the A1189?

The Newest MBP don't have a 'user' replaceable battery.(Aka one that could be replaced without taking apart the entire case) The first gen did.

Note that it says specifically it will work in everything EXCEPT the Unibody MBPs.(Which are all the newer models)

That is correct that the new Unibody uses (or not uses) replacement battery, but in between Apple has offerered many battery replacement modules for the Macbook Pro series.

Users don't need to stick with the old A1189 replacement part for the 1st gen macbook pro.

Actually I believe the A1189 is likely the only one released to replace that one. Unless you have one that says otherwise somewhere.

But regardless the question was whether the battery from the new MBPs could replace the 1st gen, and the answer, as I said above, is no.
