XPS 1730 video card replacement question

I sent my xps 1730 back to dell for repair because the my video cards were failing intermittantly, I had the 8800M GTX SLI and I got the laptop back with 9800 GT SLI , I paid a lot of money for the 8800m GTX upgrade, is the 9800 GT SLI a step back? or did i get an upgrade?

I'd agree that they're pretty much the same. Note that I haven't used either card first hand.
