dell cannot make high end systems anymore

it allmost hilarious what dell has beening doing lately,,now they cannot build there own high end sytems anymore, and has to steel from alienware...dell was suppose to leave alienware alone,,but now they are forcing its product line into dells and loosing its identity as a separate company...i don,t understand dell anymore...it seems alienware products on dells site is out of place,,,its like selling bmw,s at a chevy dealer...

dells selling there average, cheap plastic laptops along with alienwares high end systems...you just watch....soon you will not be able to configure the alienwares....

and the non-configurable options dell has now on most of its products, why would i want to buy a studio 17 with a intel 4500 video..and no way to get a better video option. .....dell is all but cheap today, and there plastic looking systems..; .ugly

Dell is only make extreme computers under the Alienware name now...it doesnt matter since Dell owns Alienware....
When you think about it..it makes sense

Have one division (AW) make the high end stuff

Let the other return to is roots of selling reasonalby priced laptops, built to order.

^^Absolutely, this is a smart business move from Dell part. Now all we hope for is that they keep the same good AW support as before.

cheers ...

well...for dell it might be a good move, but what about you as a consumer..you now have less choices in your high end laptop market.,...dell use to have the xps 1730, and the alienware m17....now you will only have the alienware to pick from..you as a consumer loose.

its like ford making the fusion and the tarus...they sort of compter against each other...so you stop making the fusion

i , as a consumer , want choices....alienware has nice high end laptop, and if dell made a great high end, like a xps 1930...they would make money off both,,and i as a consumer ,,would have more picks.,,,,,now the way dell is doing it...i only have one choice\

there are some out there that might buy an alienware , and not a dell ....visa versa.....get it.

A company cant make money with more and more selections that are the same just different case you have to make it slim and cost effective... that is what happened to GM too many brands and of the same vehicle... also the Fusion and the Taurus don't compete. Completely different class Fusion is a mid sized car that is lower in cost and the Taurus is expensive Full size car with a V-8... Now the Fusion and the Milan compete with each other same car just different trim...

there are some consumers that would buy a dell high end gaming laptop. and would have nothing to do with alienware...what about that segment. its like gm buying bmw...so you dismantle the company, and alienate those that love that product ,,,because it competes with cadillac....i still stand with my wishes as a consumer,,i want choices..dell could make a nice high end laptop...like a xps m1930, and have the alienware m17x...and make money off both.. that i do believe...but the all mighty bottom line stops things like this, because it might cost an extra million to do this

Exactly - smart move from Ford. Same thing with Dell, now that AW belongs to them; no need for internal competition and spreading out resources.

Or zero choice, by leaving Dell for another brand that would not upset you with their business decision.

Fair enough. But judging what's have been happening in this forum, most Dell XPS users are happy to move on to AW models within Dell Support.... get it?

cheers ...

oh well......there are a lot things dell does i don,t like....like where are the amd desktops???? maybe intel is paying them under the table.....seems a bit strange about amd and dell. look at their forum,,its garbage anymore.. lot of thier products have no configuration for nvidia and ati...forced with one or the other...or no choices....quess hp is that way too though.....i quess this is what happens to someone like me that knows what is inside the rigs that they sell.

when dell first bought alienware,,,they were not going to mingle with the company.....i wonder what happen???

AMD is just slower when it comes to processor power...ATI or NVIDIA should be a choice for each computer...

yes..intel high end is faster, but not necessarily otherwise.....and amd is usually cheaper....i have had intel and amd both...amd is a great cpu also...many of us own them.

oh please do.

now when it comes to support will it be dell people supporting AW or AW people supporting AW. I've already seen dell's support but i haven't with AW. only time will tell.

I personally like they way they handled it as opposed to HP. Having dell integrate the AW line into the line lineup has more soul to it then HP just assimilating voodoo and removing all traces of it.

All of the alienware laptops from 2008 till now have all been very impressive so far. I've been overly impressed with the lineup then anything dell has released in recent memory. Half the reason why I even got dells in the earlier years was because of the price, availability, and ability to replace parts via yourself or through some warranty. But I was never really impressed with the laptops as I am with the current alienware lineup.

Very true here. But hopefully with the new Envy Series, HP can now offer some high end/gaming machines to customers.

cheers ...

its sad what hp did to voodoo...but isn,t dell doing the same thing with alienware, or am i missing something..something happen with dell and alienware, but when dell first bought alienware...they told all that it would hands off with alienware. ...now they integrating alienware into dells system...and i would not be surprised if the alienware names goes bye-bye
post #17 of 28
The first few years after Dell bought out Alienware noone knew a thing. There was almost no sign that Alienware wasn't an independent company. When I ordered my m9700 back in 2007, I had no clue they were affiliated with dell. Dell still had their XPS lineup committed to hardware for gaming. Alienware had its own thing going as usual but I guess they finally sat down and realized that it was pretty stupid to keep the XPS series striven to a gamers' crowd when they owned AW. So if they suddenly drop and stop making high end hardware filled XPS laptops then they need to let it be known that their extreme gaming department is Alienware. Makes a boat load of sense to me. This may be why Alienware is offering only 2 laptops which are commercialized to the public as the most powerful >_>.
When Dell bought them, Alienware said that the machines on their end must carry the AW logo and name so Dell can not fully take over AW machines.
The whole website interference is beyond my thought, VERY idiotic move on Dells end.

Perhaps but Dell bought alienware first and today you can still buy alienware computers without dell logos and hopefully dell overseas support. I fell that alienware has improved from the consumer stand point as the 2 things I used to dread about high end gaming companies like AW or Voodoo was the price of ownership and the time it takes to configure and the time it takes to arrive at your doorstep. I was able to configure a state of the art AW m15x for a smidge under 1500 where as on the HP standpoint it would have cost me 1800+ tax just at starting. It took only 2 weeks to build the machine as opposed to the 1-2month long phase system in place before.
Hp on the other hand only sells 1 Voodoo branded machine which is very outdated and far from the gaming prestige voodoo computers use to carry. There 2 most recent additions only share the model's name but not the logo or even the same design teams as voodoo states the Envy 13/15 are both designed from the ground up by HP's teams.

I'd be surprised if Voodoo ever comes out with a new product again.

the voodoo laptops all have the look of hp,....not really a distinctive look anymore... dell have eliminated the xps m1730 line...god, i cannot believe it..they were very nice laptops. the new alienware, m15x and 17x,,is not exactly what everyone would like sittingt at their home....its sort of teen-age looking for some adults....so dell is missing a more conservative high end rig..its no wonder sager, cyber-power, ibuypower .do well.
