dell cannot make high end systems anymore - Page 2

Exactly, Alieneare is only for a certain crowd who want a distinct look and feel but the new new m series is pretty well built. Sager will never lose a crowd for sure.

Yoob To upgrade the screen to 1080p(1920x1080) it's an extra $150. Plus add the $200 and change for shipping/handling. Your setup should be close to $2000 no doubt. Unless you got cashback somehow?

Alienware is well known, I wouldn't say too reputable in the past. The new laptops are pretty solid and sweet though but they do false advertise it as the fastest 15.6 incher in the world when benchmarks from driverheaven.com shows that it is slower than my Asus and they used a setup with a 920qm and 4gigs of ram. Not too mention it scored an avg of 32 fps on crysis warhead(1024x720) meanwhile I scored an avg 36fps(1366x768). That is one game though so I'm waiting on your Benchmarks YOOB!!!!

I still really like the old school area-51 m15x laptops, even with the flaws it carries. For a knowledgeable user the alienwares are great systems that offer a high level of customization.

there were a lot of complaints with the old m15x, with the laptop lid i believe was the big one..i quess if i saw one in person, i could make a judgment on them, but was never into the lights its had....just before alienware merged with dell with the new products, i allmost bought a alienware 17incher, they had a tremendous price on it. i cannot remember the model number, but it had been reduced from 1200 to 799...

The M1710 a favorite amongst alot of users, also had lid problems, in fact the Identical Lid Problems. However the Alienware is made of a plastic lid so using epoxy or do-it-at-home yourself methods do work, while the M1710 offers no such solution. So that didn't really bother me. Plus Alienware stands behind their product so one simple phone call about the lid, and they replaced mine free of charge. So that didn't bother me either. TO date, this laptop with my 280 in it, is the strongest laptop per size ratio that I have ever come across.
