dell e1705 exchanged to a precision m6300?

Thread Starter
So dell provided me a tracking number for my pc via fedex for my pc and on the fedex tracking number it provided what seemed to be a service tag and when i checked the service tag it was a dell precision m6300?

Do you think this is even an equivalent trade when my e1705 came with a 7900gs?

And just curious why would they go from a dell inspiron system to a precision system?

Update: Just found the stats on the computer.

the studio 17 comes with ati 4650 gpus now i would think that is better? gpu performance wise the 7900gs has a bigger memory bus width than the gpu the 6300 comes with. The fx3600m card woulda been nice but it didnt come with it

what do you mean by options faint? not sure what you were asking about, the dell guy called me today and has made the request for a 2nd system exchange now i have to wait for dell approval for a system exchange.
did they give any other options for the system exchange?
The Studio 17 is a poor exchange for a 9400/E1705

they did not even inform me of anything about the system exchange till i contacted dell and somehow they had a tracking number. Today dell finally calls and said they shipped out the system, i knew that couple of days prior

So what are they sending ?

the call was for the old system being shipped out, i guess i will have to wait 2 weeks again for them to find another system to ship out.

the m6300 might be nice but the fx1600m is not better, neither is it for gaming

just another minor thing about the 6300, i like the glossy screens of my xps and the e1705 the 6300 doesnt have a glossy screen which i prefer although people don't like the glare it causes. The glossy provides a better color and light vibrance to notebooks in my opinion. The 6300 colors are duller.

The FX1600 is a better card than the 7900GS, and also supports DX10, and the M6300 is a better built laptop than the E1705 was, I have had several of both.

I understand what your saying, but if you choose to not accept the M6300, you could end up with something even worse. So make sure you know before what they may be offering instead.

This is the first time I heard Dell replacing a Inspiron line with a Precision.

on another forum i believe someone else got the same thing but he was given a fx3600 card, the post was made last year but i cant find the link to that post as of yet again.

But what has happen is that the computer has been escalated to some higher division according to dell tech support that is few pay levels higher than tech support and tech support bosses. On their notes it has for the system a higher gpu i believe and is suppose to be going thru approval by the end of today's business day.

Well hopefully you'll get that M6300 with a FX3600.

It's a nice unit, and the performace of the FX3600 is great.

I play Crysis, BF2, Etc no problem on it.

dell just gets more and more retarded. Now they think the 9600 is an upgrade over my 7900gs card. On their notes they it states i was unhappy with the resolution so much for listening to me, these techs are half brain dead, but then at least the precision tech support seems to have a better knowledge on the systems.

Update: Great news after about 2 hours on the phone with them, PRECISION tech support by the way which seems to have more intelligence than inspiron tech support. They will be shipping out the fx3600 and a technician to install the gpu.

What happen was that when i called them they had the case already on their system and the precision tech support had to contact another department to talk to also while i was on the line.

The other department initially said no to the replacement for the 3600m because the 3600m has 512mb of video memory while my 7900gs only had 256mb. I explain to him about the specifications of the gpus. And he personally googled it and got to the nvidia site and saw the specs for the 9600gs, 7900gs, fx1600m, and the fx3600m. He also wikipedia it.

He then pleaded my case to the other department of the specs of each card and then the department that is in charge of approving of these cases approved for the 3600m card to be shipped out next business day and a technician should come by friday to install the part.

Precision support is definitely from my past experience has so far been better than inspiron support. Precision support is also based in Florida.

Hope this information helps anyone else in the future who is stuck in my shoes.
