Choosing RAM for my Dell Inspiron 6400 need some help please

Hey everyone,

Hope you're having a great day!

I just needed some advice on a RAM upgrade as RAM has always confused me...

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400, Intel Centrino Core 2 duo 1.83GHz and Nvidia 7300 GO 128MB.

Current RAM is dual channel interleaved 1024MB total DDR2 SDRAM CAS 5-5-5-15

My current RAM speed while in use is 667MHz (memtest+).

Memtest+ reports my FSB to be 166MHz.

I'm looking to get 2GB total memory, I currently have 1GB.

Any advice on what the best RAM would be to suit my system for more speed?

Thank you very much in advance.

well I would suggest going for 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB ) of the 667 Mhz ram.

IMO 2 GB is the min amount of memory you would want for Windows

Get PC5300/5400 or PC6400 which ever is cheaper all will run at 667Mhz on your system. If 32bit OS consider getting just 1 2GB SODIMM and run with 3GB's; 1x1GB + 1X2G.

If you go with 4GB consider low latency CL4 but the performance boost is minor.

I normally use Corsair or Crucial for memory and their websites allow you to enter in your PC details and they'll make suggestions based on that.

http://www.corsair.com/

http://www.crucial.com/

At that point, you go off and see where you can find it cheapest. Doesn't even have to be Corsair or Crucial that you buy, they just help you find out what's compatible, whether it takes dual channel, etc.
