9860 Wont power up

I have a Sager 9860 (D900t) and I believe it died today but would like some other opinions.

I got on the computer this morning and all of a sudden I heard a strange noise and the computer shutdown. I smelled a slight burned electronics smell, and it would not start up. The battery has not held a charge for a year or 2 up till now but that wasn't a problem because I kept it plugged in most of the time. Even when I shut the computer down and unplugged it I would still get a light on the LCD lid when closed. I opened it up and removed the Processor heat sink and looked for the dreaded burned DC adapter but did not notice anything. The light on the power brick still lights up.

I would like to know how much it may cost to send it in and have it looked at and possibly be repaired? Who do I send it too? It is 4 years old and out of warranty. If it is going to cost a ton I will probably scrap it.

It is a Sager 9860 with the ATI x800 256 graphics card. Maybe Luke and NBF can respond that would be great.

Can you take the whole thing apart and see/smell where the burns are? Could be lucky with just the power board.

Well at this point I guess I could as right now it is a 15 pound paper weight. I did take all the covers off the bottom and didn't see anything burned. If it is the power board how would I tell? I took the heat sink off and looked at where it plugs in to the back and didn't see anything.

If it "looks" fine, you can try start up again with NO battery and with another AC Adapter. Don't use the old one.

Well I took it apart after I went ahead and bought a new computer and found that where the adapter plus in on the underside had a tiny circuit blown / fried. I figured as much but had to find out for sure. I am sure it would have cost more to fix then to just move on. I bought a Dell and cut my loss. At least I am able to recover the data that was left on my hard drive. Anyone need any 9860 parts?
