M1730 keyboard

I had a thought here, and I hope you m1730 mod kids are listening or at least see this. I was wondering if it would be possible to convert our m1730 keyboards to the m17x keyboard at first glance they almost seemed identical, but on the surface level, anyone have any ideas?




Actually I guess you would screw up your caps lock lights and maybe your power button, I just want a red lit keys on my m1730, lol.

there also the power and lightcontrols on the keyboard there would be no way of connecting those on the M1730

The footprint of the keyboards being identical (or very similar) is the first requirement. The wiring would be pretty simpe provided the backlit keyboard on the M1730 and the one on the M17X used around the same voltage. The current doesn't matter* since the current just controls how bright the LED is. It would just be pos keyboard -> wire -> pos mobo, gnd keyboard -> wire -> gnd mobo. However, it might be alot simpler than this. Maybe the power connector for the keyboard on the M17X and M1730 look the same in which case it would be a direct swap.

*Obviously, you don't want to little (dim) or too much (damages diode).

the M17x keyboard can change color right? or is it just blue like the 1st gen 15x keyboard? I realize the one we see here is a 2nd gen keyboard which can change colors, but I don't know about the 1st gen 17x keyboards.
