Is the M1730 / 8800M GTX SLI fully dead and out of the system?

Thread title just about says it all. I'm another one of those waiting for an 8800M GTX (Dell PN XM888) replacement.

Replacement was initiated by Dell in early September, was told backorder until September 21. On September 21, backorder was pushed to October 5.

I've made a bit of noise and I'm at the "Consumer Escalation" level, but I know there's the "Executive Escalation" level as well. At this point, I've got a Service Call number for a system replacement, but it's showing no activity.

Before I really push the issue -- is the M1730 fully dead and out of Dell's refurb/replacement channels? The 8800M GTX, too?

Seems like it according to many inputs from many other threads of the same "dell venting/ranting".

cheers ...

Just spoke to dell last night. My 8800m replacement is still on track for next Monday, October 5th. I have been without my M1730 since Sept. 8th. Tech should come middle next week to replace my card. If not I have it noted on my account that I will recieve a new system of equal or better.

And the replacement should be nothing less than a M17x

For sure. Also I asked the manager about the gpu being refurbished or new. He said technically all replacement parts are considererd refurbished but some may be new. I told him I assumed the gpu would be new since it took 4 weeks to get more cards in from the manufacturer. If something else goes or this doesnt fix my issue I will refuse any other options but a new system.

I finally got in touch with the rep doing the replacement at Dell. He said the M1730 is no longer available and the dead one will be replaced with a new computer. I have an email listing the operative specs for the "like or better" comparison are 17" 19x12 screen, 800M GTX SLI and the processor... we'll see how much more of a battle is left when I hear what they propose to replace it with. He said he'd get back to me Friday.

Meat did he say anything about the 8800m being in stock on October 5th? Are you located in the USA like me?

Yep, October 5 is what I was told last week. I just spoke with Dell yesterday, they gave me a similar story to your thread -- replacing the system. They did say mine would be new, but haven't given me a spec list yet, so who knows if the battle is over or not.

Nice. Ya I am still upset as to why so many are getting new while I'm getting a refurb. I may check in tomm. and see if it could be changed to new. Who knows. But I had a feeling October 5th would not stand. Now the 15th and before I know it November. Might as well get an Alienware for my troubles.

Also did they say it would take 25-30 days like me?

My M1730 with the 8800 GTX died last night also... wow, is there some global conspiracy going on here or what?

Anyway, on the phone today with Dell for 3 hours today. They wanted me to wait 3 weeks since the 8800 GTX was back ordered. I told them "NO WAY" so they did the usual:

Option 1: Send me the 8700 until the part comes in
Option 2: Wait 3 weeks for the part
Option 3: System replacement

I chose option 3 so I have to wait a few days to see the spec on the replacement machine. If its a M17x... which it should be, I expect nothing less than 1900x1200 screen, SLI, and all the other bells and whistles I have currently. I am sure they will try to sell me the Studio XPS 16 but thats not gonna fly... winning small battles will win me the war..

I filed a BBB Complaint for my hassles so I am hoping holding that over support's head will yiled me the results that I am suppose to get.

In light of all this, I think its sad that so many of you, like myself, have to jump through hoops to get fair and honest tech support. I think its pathetic and Dell really needs to change their operations and processes... Anyway, I will keep you all posted and for the OP, please keep us posted. Threads like this help people in similar situations so they don't get the shaft.

Yeah, your telling me. I had the 1710 that my wife accidentaly plunged into my buddy's pool last year. I kicked and scratched for Dell to give me another 1710 but I got stuck with this piece of sh*t with its fake plastic Carbon Fiber and finish that shows smears if you breath on it wrong...

Wasn't there someone on here last year that had their wifes breast milk spill into the system and render it inoperable.
