Alienware M17x World of Warcraft Lag spikes

Hi Everyone

I need help figuring this out. I just received my new Alienware M17x and i'm having 4-5 Lag pikes/ game freeze per minute ? I disabled the 9400 in the bios to run only on the 260M Gtx ( Non SLI)

I also tried to lower the display setting in games and I updated my drivers to the last version to see if that would change anything.

So far no change

Any of you had the same problem with this notebook ? '>

I don't think it's the notebook that's causing the lag spikes. What kind of internet connection do you have?

Connection is high speed Cable..
I also have another laptop X200 toshiba ( my wife is playing on it) and that one is lag free in WOW.. we share the same wireless connection

Are you playing on battery? Or playing on battery saver mode?

I mean what power setting is it set to. At the bottom right hand corner of the screen, you should be able to switch between Balanced, Power saver and Performance. I hope it's on Performance.

i'd recommend wiring it up to the router and test it out to make sure it wasn't the wireless causing the lag. i had such bad wireless that i bought an intel card.

High Latency in N Wireless

Ok, I’m coming back because the problem actually never got fixed.. After lots of tests, I know see that the wireless is causing the high latency in World of Warcraft..

My wife is playing on an old Toshiba X200 with a stable wireless latency of 65 to 80.

My M17x has a bad latency of 250 - 280 and sometimes 450-500.. with 3-4 interruption per minute and sometimes I get disconnected.. This is ridiculous.. I even reinstalled the broadcom drivers without having better results.

Yesterday, I changed my Linksys router WRT160N with a Gaming Dlink WGL-4500 and my latency is still running at around 175-250.. I am very mad inside to see that I spend all that money for the M17x that seems to have cheap wireless reception ... Is it Vista 64 bits or the onboard Broadcom wireless is crap?

Place help !

Thanks

Have you tried logging on with the M17x only? Without your wife being on the Toshiba at the same time?

Yeah, the latency is not as high but it's still too high going at around 250-290.

This is a bummer for me. I basicly do nothing but wireless, and it's going to suck if I can't play AOEIII with lag

Hi,
Have you reviewed you wireless NIC’s properties?

From the start menu, search NCPA.CPL
Right click the Wireless Network Connection and hit properties.
On the top right, hit the Configure button.
First click the power management tab and uncheck everything.

Then click on the Advanced tab
I don’t have your exact NIC card so these settings will differ, look for anything related to lowering power consumption and disable it / change to performance mode. I’d also look for other setting such as compatibility mode, chose performance / maximum range.

Reboot.

Let us know.
