hello everyone , tried to be clear on the title..

i have gateway laptop p-173 xl

great for gaming .... but i want to make it crazier !

so my question is ,,,, if I added X9100 CPU extreme 3.06 on it , will it overheat ? or i'll be normal just like the 2.4 cpu on it ?

thank you

http://cgi.ebay.com/GATEWAY-P-7805U-...d=p3286.c0.m14

what do you think of that

and what do u think of the price ?
The on-going price for a stock P-7805U is about $1000, or less. So 600-700 bucks extra for the CPU, dual drive and WUXGA screen is not so bad.

So you're saying its a good price right ?

he added 640 gb 7200 , and the CPU which is around $900 , and the screen

4 gb is not bad

im thinking of buying it instead of getting the cpu for my 173xl'

and what about the overheat ?

my P-7811FX is running pretty cool at gaming. Just keep it elevated and you are set. And yes, it is a good price comparing to similar models/specs of Dell-AW, Sager ...

Thank you !

You are certainly most welcome. Come back again, and if you decide to get the machine, give us a personal review on it.

Thermal issues are a big deal. Going from a 25w TDP to 45w TDP could create issues. Unless modified thermal solution an 80% thermal increase in CPU could be an issue. I said could not will as I don't know. But consider.

qhn what do you think? You are running 25w TDP do you think 45w TDP could cause issue?
^^Agreeing with ya. Hopefully the upgrade on the 7805U was being made correctly from the depot with some secret BIOS that Gateway hardly made available to the public.

We'll see how it'll turn out.

I confused the Q9100 and X9100 so TDP is 44w not 45w so increase is only 76% but same points.

ghn I don't believe in Santa Clause or secret BIOS. I hope physical modification? And I can almost 100% say not happening.

I am a crazy optimistic type dude. And we do have many users that push the envelop far more than it can allow.

The 7805U comes with a BIOS that allows RAID set-up that my 7811FX did not get. Maybe it has something to fix the heating issue on some machines as well.

So guys is it good or like power pack said .. thermal issues ?

so this laptop maybe at risk if he didnt upgrade it well ?
50/50 as discussed. You can ask the seller direct for confirmation and warranty. It is the same chipset used by many manufacturers for gaming machines, and yes, they all can have thermal issues. Just look at the ASUS G70/G71 series.

But I personally vote for "go"!

People have done. I highly suggest a notebook cooler in your future. Also aftermarket thermal compound.

Oh and the price is very good. If this is your budget max then get. If you have say $400 more consider a Sager w/i7 and GTX 280m.

do u think this cpu "Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor ( 45nm, 6MB L3 Cache, 1.60GHz)

better than the 3.06 ghz core2 extreme ?

280m gtx is great ,, but the sager price is very high !

the 2059.00 price comes with : 2GB
no raid
250gb 5400 HDD
Yes it does look like the i7 720QM should out perform the X9100.

$2150 w/RAID, OS, 4GB RAM. NP8760 at Xotic. You do know HDD performance does not affect real time game play? $2070 1 HDD no RAID.

The FX as always offers some serious performance/value. There is no system out there that I can say wins on this over FX. This has been true since it was first released. Yes there are better but you will pay. And pay to the point that some would say not as good of value.

I would also suggest the NP8690 15.6 same specs as above single HDD lower resolution display $1820. Lower native resolution will increase game performance.

If you like the FX go for it. But the NP8690 which will have a better thermal solution for $170 more interests me. Yea lower resolution and no RAID but better GPU and CPU better thermal solution gets my attention.

Oh yea the FX will ship right away the NP's won't.

ok guys , i've changed my mind my friends wants the laptop so he's getting it.

he's a starter to the high performance laptops and desktop replacements

last question and answer and sorry for my questions

do you think it'll be fine for normal use ? and it'll be like my p173xl ?

i keep the bottom vents open so it doesnt overheat. and you guys know our weather in the middle east

so... if he didnt block the bottom vents for that laptop i showed u , will it be good and normal ?

he'll use it for gaming and video editing and he doesnt want any more coooling stuff for it..

just keeping the bottom vents open ?

Sure, I have seen many notebooks with the bottom off. Would it make any differences from just with elevation? I don't think so personally.

cheers ...
