This one might show up major sites and may bring the site down if all goes well expect a preview by the 6-7th and a review shortly after.

Alienware M15x

Core i7 720QM 1.6Ghz
3GB DDR3
Geforce 260 GTX 1GB
Vertex 120GB
1080p WUXGA screen

Feel free to ask for games to benchmark. Im not a fan of the older ones that are no longer important as very few to no games rely on such old tools like 3dmark2001 and 2003 etc

UPDATE 10-9-09 Check out the preview Now with Benchmarks from Crysis, HL2 LC

I never fully understood how i7 cpus work. Example using a 720qm. Can all four cores crank up to 2.8ghz?

4 cores run at 1.6ghz but with hyperthreading your looking at 8 cores spreading the work out. If your running an app that doesnt use 8 cores you lose the benefit of hyperthreading. If your apps dont even use 4 cores then for every physical core that is not in use will be turned off and used to increase the juice on the remaining cores. most if not all applications will run in single or double threads so you can see as high as 2.8 ghz running in that mode.

Ooo wow so I'm probably better off sticking with my x9100 pushing 3.44ghz. Can't wait to see some 3dmark CPU scores dude keep me posted!

It's also important to keep in mind that the Core i7 CPUs are also considerably more powerful clock-for-clock than Core 2 CPUs. For instance, the i7-720QM runs at 2.4 Ghz for dual-core programs, but due to the better per clock performance, its performance for dual-core applications is equal to or slightly better than a 3.2 Ghz Core 2 CPU. It's not quite as powerful as your overclocked x9100 even then (for dual-core apps), but it also has a lower total TDP than your CPU and chipset: 48.5W vs. 53.5W for yours. The i7-820QM and i7-920XM are both more powerful than your overclocked x9100 in dual-core apps (and actually in every other kind of application as well).

Im kinda dissapointed that this 9lb heaving monster only has a GTX 260 as its high end option when ive seen some slip a 280 into the older m15x maybe shes a nicer overclocker we'll see. Wont be able to do the review tonight but will def see a preview of some kind tonight though if fedex does its job right.
I wish they put a 280 in it as well.

A friend of mine threw a 280m thhat he purchased from rjtech into his m15x mach1 as well. The same can probably be done as well for the newer ones but theres no need since the 260m can be overclocked a boatload!

im gonna need a voltage mod as ive hit the cap on the 260 havnt even broken 74c's yet
post #18 of 33
to change the voltage just flash the card. you need....

1. nibitor 5.2 to change the voltage or any other card settings
2. nvflash 5.8 for dos to do the flash
3. gpuz to download your bios

Edit: Also don't forget Nvidia System Tools to OC you GPU.

This just goes to show how efficient the cooling system is in the M15x. I wonder how high you can OC until your GPU reaches meltdown!

The bay that houses the heatsink for the MXM GPU and the CPU looks like they could fit larger units presumably for the future release of faster i7 CPUs and a Faster GPUs
