x7900, thanks for the responce!

It is socket P which your machine accepts but I don't think the BIOS will support this CPU.

Thanks for the help zzpulp! Can anyone confirm this? Will my BIOS not support the CPU?

No it will not. It has zero to do with the BIOS! What it is, is your CPU is Santa Rosa. Your CPU upgrade is Montevina. Santa Rosa does not support above 800Mhz fsb. You do the math. Is not going to work the T9900 because it counts on a 1066Mhz bus.

Is not going to happen. It is your chipset. Not your BIOS or anything else.

Thanks for the info, so if I want to upgrade my CPU (currently an X7900) the best CPU I could use would be the X9000? What would you suggest?

X7900 was for the Santa Rosa platform. So if you have the PM965 chipset it only supports up to 800Mhz fsb. The T9900 uses 1066Mhz fsb so even though it will physically fit it will not function correct. So you have a chipset limitation. No BIOS update can fix.

Just because Santa Rosa runs at 800 MHz does not mean it cannot accept a higher fsb cpu. It just means the cpu's fsb will be forced to run at the fsb of the motherboard. This is not recommended though since the voltages may be different.
