The Inspiron 9400 is listed as Liquid Crystal Display, 17, WideUltra Extended Graphics Array Video Elec. Stds. Assoc., GlareWide Viewing Angle, Samsung

MY XPS gen 2 part # is J9662 17wu,gwva,xps-g2-lg

There is a small tab on the 9400/M1710 screens that is not on the XPS2/9300 screens. It would require a small case mod in order to fit physically onto the laptop. Beyond that, it should work but you may have to put your original lcd inverter on the new lcd.

i do not think the BIOS will support a GPU swap from a E1705 in a Gen 2.

I think you can put a 7800GTX from a Gen 2 into a E1705

The only cards you can use are the ATI X300, X600, Nvidia 6800 go, 6800 go ultra, 7800 go GTX. There are a few quadro equivalents for the nvidia cards. Anyway, you can't use a 79xx or any 8 series or higher GPU.

I just need to clarify
I own a XPS-GEN2 with C5846, 256MB NV42, Nvidia 6800 ( with a cracked screen )

I am buying this week a 9400/e1705,with what they think a bad gpu.
UF804 Go 7800 , 256MB, I9400, G70

Any opinions what rig I should repair ?
