I've already begin my second battle with Dell to get me Windows 7 Pro instead of home premium. I'll keep you posted on my success...

PS: Turmoil is never satisfied!

I was just playing COD4 at 1920x1200 4xAA and 16xAF and getting around 180FPS

I will start putting up benchmarks (Crysis, COD4, COD5, etc) soon. These things are 10000x times better than my old 8700M SLI. Worth the 2 months of waiting.

My ETA for my W7 disc is December how no idea why.

Those 8700s were weak cards. Even the 7950 GTX cards were better and your 280s should be 10000x better. Congrats!

My 6800 Ultra in my M170 was a lot better than my 8700M's.

Does not mean a thing, physical delivery date can be different from "system" date

System shipped today. On the phone with Dell right to battle for my free Windows 7 Pro instead of home premium.

Once that task is tackled, I am on to getting my free upgrades for waiting for 1 month... well, almost 1 month.

Alright, Windows 7 Professional Upgrade Coupon Checked!

They will be mailing it to me Monday! Woot! Now all I have left is free upgrades to tackle. I asked them for an upgarded graphics card and processor... lets see what they come back with...

...I think I get off on arguing with Dell...

Chalking this down as another successful support case for both user and Dell

Yeah, Definatley. Dell lived up to their part of the contract. Infact, they went above and beyond, so aside from the arguing and jumping through hoops, I am quite pleased.

in the same boat.

Hello,
I too had a dell M1710, and its video card (a nvid 7900 GTX )burned out. After arguing with tech reps and supervisors for over a month dell decided they would send me some sort of alienware computer. Here are the specs posted on the dell web site. (actually very similar to what the guy who started this thread is getting/got but he gets better video cards)

224-5967Black Metallic310-0173Airborne Documentation, System Exchanges,Factory Install
313-7711Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW)
317-0818Intel Core2 Duo T9600 2.8GHz (6MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB)
317-08564GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz 2 x 2048MB
320-07601GB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870
320-814017.0in, WUXGA,LCD,ANW
330-0171S and P Drop-in-Box Marcom forDHS Notebooks
341-0005160GB 7,200RPM (xMB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection
421-0726ALIENFX BLUE
430-3558Internal 300Mbps Dual-Band a/g/n 2x2 MIMO
430-0628Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR

(I left out some things like the win 7 upgrade & the power thing and the time zone all that BS stuff)

My questions are:
1. Is this an alienware m 17x or just an old refurbed m17?

2. Does this system have an esata port?

3. It took dell from aug 19 2009 (when they received my dead M1710 computer) to nov 1 2009 (when they shipped my replacement computer). Should I demand something more for all that time I went with out a computer? I know I was a thorn in Dells side for that whole time. I was calling them atleast 2 times a week to make sure that they had not forgotten about me.

4.What external Hard Drive dock should I get to place my old compys HD in?

Thanks

1. It's a M17x. M17 doesn't have 4870 for a GPU
2. Yes
3. M1710 to a M17x? They gave you a good deal. No need to argue.
4. Can't help ya there.

Thank you much for the speedy reply.

Ya I did get a pretty good deal going from a 1710 to a m17x. Best thing I did was get the 4 year warranty on the m1710. When dell first told me I would be getting a replacement system I was discouraged because I knew dell no longer made a XPS that was 17 inches. Dell infact was planning on sending me the 16 inch XPS. So I complained until the rep said they had made some sort of custom code for people in my situation (not that there are any left around with a valid warranty). It just took soooo long for the whole process to happen. I am currently a computer engineering student at U of Illinois (Take that Michigan we beat you this weekend!!!), and I need a computer to get my work done. (I also made this known to dell a number of times). Since the beginning of this semester I have been making my home in the computer labs at school.

The system should arrive around Thursday this week! I have been deprived of gaming, oddly I don't believe my grades will even show it haha!
