Media Direct XPS M1710 - New Harddrive..

Hi

I recently installed a new hard drive on my Dell XPS M1710. As a precaution without properly researching I created a 50MB partition so that I could put Media Direct on it if need be.

Does anyone know if I can actually install Media Direct still? Also Can I install newer versions? And if so do I need a larger partition?

Most importantly... WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD THE media direct CD from? I didn't get one with my computer.... And I believe I need that right?

I can awnser some of these questions.

You do require a Media Direct CD

You can install Media Direct on your Drive using the media Driect CD

Not sure about the partition size, but i believe the media Direct CD sets all that up during the install.

If your still under warranty you maybe able to get the CD from Dell, but I do not think you can download it (Legally anyways)

So.. does this mean I have to reinstall windows to get it to work? or can I just install it to the extra partition I set up with the dell CD?

Also.. can I use the latest Media Direct? I remembered all kinds of bugs with my older version of it like lack of codecs, clumsy interface, etc.. i'm sure a lot of this is fixed up now.

I had to use that CD as part of a recent troubleshooting session with Dell. When I booted from it, it set up a 3.5Gb partition for MediaDirect.

I took a quick look online, but I couldn't see any legal way of downloading MediaDirect. I did find this link on Dell and I did download it, but it seems to be a version from a while back.
