Lemme summarize, here, and you tell me if I'm correct...all stats are from 3DMark06

1. You started out with NO CPU overclock, and NO GPU overclock; highest you got STOCK was ~17,300 or something (compared to 280gtx/SLI at ~15,500).

2. Then, you Overclocked the CPU to 3.2Ghz (from what I could see), but this only increased the score from ~17,300 to ~17,500...? (compared to 280gtx/SLI at ~16,800)

3. The scores you are obtaining NOW are with BOTH CPU & GPU Overclocked, and you can obtain ~18,000+...? (compared to 280gtx/SLI at ~16,800)

4. Questions: When you have the CPU oc'd to 3.2Ghz, do the fans run full-blast all the time? Are there other annoying things that happen (artifacts, system malfunctions, etc.)? In other words, would you feel comfortable using the overclocks to play games for hours on end, or would you leave it stock?

So, [maxxed out]---> 4870 > 280gtx by ~1000-1500 points, depending on OC status?
-------------------------------------

Thanks a bunch, and sorry I haven't followed up with your posts for a few pages...the benches are certainly much appreciated...it looks like my M1730 will be getting put on the shelf, soon, lol, as soon as I can convince the wife to let me blow the credit ('But we need a tax write-off, baby...!' bwahahaha).

I like this summarizing

@NWGuru: if you would add the "environment" with each score, it will keep us all enlightened

Great stuff though, keep them coming as dondadah88 mentioned and updating NBF scores as well.

cheers ...

1 & 2. The CPU was OC'd. With just the CPU OC the highest on the nVidia system was 16.8K and on the ATI system it was 17.6K.

3. Both CPU and GPU OC. The nVidia system scored 17.6K and the ATI score 18.2K (This score will be higher, just need more time).

4. No the fans are not maxed out at all times. Both systems have issues with stuttering with the high OC mainly in Vantage. When OC'ing both types of GPUs the ATI system is actually more stable. As far as games are concerned I leave it stock. Any issues in gaming are usually driver related. Over-clocking them just adds more heat shortening the life span of the cards.

I'll try to do a better summary for the original post in this thread.

Thanks. I've been running these benchmarks under Vista 32bit.

It would be helpful if you started posting some of your benchmarks here. People like to see the nVidia & ATI comparisons.
ok. When I get on my break I will.

should I post on this thread or ???
I don't know how to start. I see your specs are very detailed here as to the other forum, it's just the dig.

Yes. Having more information here regarding the performance of the nVidia cards helps. I don't have most of the stuff I did when I had my old system. I think people really like to see comparisons. This thread is getting lots of views so I know people are using it even if they aren't posting. Having Clevo M980NU owners do the same would also be helpful.

oh then i'l post my stuff here as well. Maybe more then nbr. I'll be your contender. Hopefully I get a quad soon soo it can be even.

BTW, for those following my SSD issues I've been having I finally got Dell to replace my drive. Amazing what they will do just to get you off the phone. Anyway they told me it would not get delivered until next year! They said they are backlogged blah blah blah...the SSD not only shipped yesterday shortly after I talked to them it's being delivered today. I was pretty surprised when I found out this morning.

Yeah my NBR thread got closed. I don't think that will happen here.

did you have problems running 3DMark06 with the GTX cards?

I can do it with the Sli disabled and scored @ 12.500 (stock)
but when I enable sli it seems to always lock up in the Canyon test.

I am using the latest drivers from NVIDIA

LINK <<< best drivers to bench with for the 280s. Just don't game with them.
be more spefic. What clocks etc....

what drivers are you using.

I think you need to turn on hdr....
i'm going to have to disagree and say dox 182.46 for benchmarking vantage so far. But the best driver I have used for my 9800m gtx was nvidia 182.06 and I can't remember the other one but they don't work with the 280m gtx sli.

I was only referring to the 280s. I used the 182.06 drivers with the 280s. Any of the Dox drivers after 182.46 didn't work for me.

You gents might want to give NBF own MobileForce a test drive

I did the 190.38 nbf and it was a quality driver. Very good and nice quality for gaming. But not with benchmarking. Also it doesn't support hybrid sli.

Not much support Hybrid SLI period. Not worth trying to get support for it for what it gives you.
