Ouch! Ken @GENTECH would cringe ... Go for a reliable private reseller, I would say, regardless of brands

@OP: http://www.notebookforums.com/forum290.html ... give it a peek!

cheers ...

Yea q smilepak did not hold back on that one. I mean just because Asus had one of their customers thrown in jail in China for trying to get them to honor their warranty? I mean just one customer. I mean mistakes happen and not like they ignored them which can be so frustrating.

Lol!

Asus / ODM are for people who like to tinker. People who like to rip their machine apart, install crap, and put it back together again. Mainly people who knows what to do.

While small places give good service, that is not their business. They don't make the drivers, they don't make the parts, they don't own the support.

Buy a Sony, you have hundreds of authorized support places and repairs. lol.

Good argument here. I won't go against it, but I can dance both floors, having owning/using both brands

To confirm my previous original suggestion for OP - get the Sony ;-)

cheers ...

Same here..lol. I was disappointed with the Asus Z71v. It was nice power machine, but dang, the videocard was what killed it. It over heats and whale loud.

I totally ripped it apart, replaced the video card heatsink, replaced the LCD, and some other stuff..got it usable for a year and never touch it again ahahha

And I've since replaced/upgraded the RAM, CPU, video card heatsink, battery (several times) and hard drive of mine (and needed to have the motherboard and video card replaced once) but I still use it regularly. I guess it depends on your perspective (and/or patience, finances, etc.)
