HP Pavillion dv6040 startup fail, 1 long 2 short beeps. Probably Video card.

I have an HP Pavillion dv6040 laptop, 3 years old. Today, after 3 years of nearly flawless operation, it will not start. It gives 1 long and 2 short beeps, and then nothing. The lights turn on, the fans run, but the screen remains off (black with the backlight off).

I believe it is a video problem (looked up the beeps online). The laptop has an Nvidia GeForce 7200 Graphics card.

Any ideas on how to fix it? Or does anyone know if it's possible to replace the video card in such a laptop?

Thanks,
Neal

You can't replace the graphic card without replacing the whole board, but search the section and forum for "baking". This might stretch the life of your HP a bit longer.

Thanks, I think I'll try calling HP or my local computer repairman...might try baking as a last resort.

you can have the board repaired if you can find someone locally with the correct equipment and knowledge on B.G.A. replacing/re-balling/re-working
