Can the MX6920 use a 14.8V battery?

I'm looking to replace the battery in my Gateway MX6920. The one that's in there now is 11.1V, 4800 mAh. Some stores are offering higher-capacity batteries (as high as 6600 mAh), but they put out 14.8V. The stores are claiming compatibility; is that a sensible claim?

(I've asked Gateway support, but haven't heard back yet.)

Yes you can. What is the voltage of the AC adapter? You got a low spec'd battery when you bought the notebook. You do know the 14.8v 6600mAh battery is 12 cell? So it will likely protrude? I don't know your model specifically.

Just so you know so you can compare actual quantity. the 11.1v you have is 53.28w. The 14.4 is 95.04w. If the 14.4v ran at 11.1v it's mAh would be 8562mAh's.

Hope my math is correct.

No surprise; I paid $800 for it in 2006.

Yeah, I was figuring as much. I should probably try to get dimensions so I can tell how much it'll protrude, and in which direction. I don't have a particular form-fitting case, so I might be OK. But thanks for pointing it out.

Yeah, that looks close to what I got. Good to hear someone who knows a little more about it agreeing, though.

Thanks!

I did check and was sure it would work. But knowing the AC pushes 19v is just more confirmation. I mean we don't want the "pop" and "smoke". And yea the circuitry can handle 19v it looks like.

Thanks again! I've written the manufacturer asking how big the battery is. From the picture on their site, it looks like it's about 1-2 inches taller, arranged so that, on a desk, it'll act like you're propping up your keyboard. That should be fine.

You might want also to drop a note in NBF Battery Reseller Section.
