ASUS build and touchpad quality.

Hello,

I am looking at upgrading to a new laptop and I've noticed that ASUS have quite a few models with specs that fall into what I'm looking for. Unfortunately my experience with my current ASUS laptop has put me off a little so I was hoping to get some feedback from other ASUS owners before I rule out ASUS altogether based on what might only be a poorly made model and not an example of ASUS overall.

My main concerns are build quality and the quality of the touchpads (mine is pretty much unusable). Is this a common fault in many ASUS laptops?

Thanks in advance!

So far the G50 is holding up and performing quite well in the family. Check out the new upcoming here?

Similar specs to the Alienware M15x that I'm considering as an option. Feeling really put off ASUS right now though due to my current laptop, just not sure if thats because this is a dud model...

I am happy with mine the touchpad buttons are harder to push than I think they should be. Touchpad itself no problem.

same here. The buttons are kinda clicky, but the touchpad itself is the best I've used. It's very responsive, smooth to move across, and scrolls well.

Do you mind if I ask which model you have? Buttons being clicky doesnt really bother me as I usually tap the touchpad for a click anyway. My touchpad is textured so its horrible to use, texture kinda makes it hard to go diagonally in a straight line because texture is kinda parallel vertical lines (or horizontal? dont have it with me right now)

I've got a Z71V (the model was released in April 2005). A G51Vx review unit I tested had a pretty good touchpad as well.
