I'm able to download windows 7 for school through their website and I was worried about my drivers. My specs are on my sig. I have vista 32 and going to clean install to a windows 7 64bit. Anyone know if 7 is good for my gaming laptop

When I had Windows 7 on my laptop it was better than Vista... Its not a resource hog... I couldn't see a difference between my xp and Windows 7 with gaming... now vista is a different story on that...it really comes down to drivers....

yeah Im really worried about my graphics card

The only thing I would be worried about is the 64 bit drivers... they maybe hard to find if dell or alienware doesn't have them... modified maybe the way to go with that option...

I plan on upgrading to Windows 7 the day it's released. Already have my code and everything.

I've had Windows 7 on the M15X. Similar to your but with the GeForce 8800GTX. i was surprised at how many drivers were included with Win 7 RTM. I've tried by x86 and x64 versions.

you should not have many issues.

However, i've since taken windows 7 off and upgraded to XP again. Windows 7 feels slightly faster then Vista on the m15x; XP still blows them both away (sad).

I am not sure about "XP still blow Vista and W7 away" remark. We have specific apps in the office that we used on XP and Vista machines, and with the proper version update (apps) and the hardware, the software runs much much better (faster and more stable) on Vista machines than on XP.

cheers ...

3dmark06 score was 16% lower in Win7 (tried multiple drivers), i consider that blown away

Took 14 min to (shift) delete a simple 15GB folder in Win 7, 5 seconds in XP... at that point i put XP back on...

Microsoft is life ending XP soon, and we're still struggling to get Vista / 7 to work properly at work. we have a lot of legacy apps that just don't like it...

Microsoft incorporated 'XP Mode' into Windows 7 in an effort to help consumers with older programs. I'm under then impression that it sets up a virtual xp environment so that you can still use un-updated software. I'm curious to see if that actually is a feasible solution for old programs or if it's corporate talk. Using 'XP Mode' has a higher hardware requirement than standard Windows 7, thus is not feasible for gaming.

The Windows XP mode is just a virtual machine emulator running inside Windows 7. That's the reason why it is not possible to do games because it is emulating a whole computer.

Still, it is quite handy for users who use custom made programs which depend on XP to run.
