Aspire 5920 cpu upgrade

Thread Starter
I recently replaced the T5550 cpu in my Aspire 5920 with a T9500 (SLAYX). I bought the T9500 on E-bay as new, SLAYX, installed it and it works fine. Two different programs (CPU-Z and PC Wizard 2008 identify this processor as a T9500 (ES). The cpu had the SLAYX marking on the top. Is it possible I bought an engineering sample cleverly disguised as SLAYX?

I would not say that it was cleverly disguised, but unless the CPU bought was in a retail box, it was likely an ES model.

Thanks, qhn. It didn't come in a retail box.

I guess you got the ES for real then. You have a choice, either keep using it (this should be fine) or contact Intel direct - yes Intel - and negotiate a replacement, they love to take back the ES chips circulating out there.

The reason I was curious about it is because in another forum, I read that T9500 models that have four letters and begin with Q are engineering samples while models that have five letters and begin with S are not engineering samples.
It has been working just fine so far.

:-) It can be confusing between a sept code (Q...) and the sSpec number (S..)

Sometimes one needs to read the whole description of the item on sale. CPUs coming from the far lands of HK and China are mostly ES

Good to hear that it has been functioning ok for you.

cheers ...
