Asus switches all their units to 64-bit Operating Systems - It's about time!

Thread Starter
I was just looking at the Asus units available on Amazon and GenTech for pre-order and I noticed that all of them will come with the 64-bit version of Windows 7. This is a big deal because since Windows Vista came out, Asus has routinely installed 32-bit versions of Vista in machines that came with 4GB RAM and 1GB video cards, meaning that not all of the memory could be addressed by the operating system. It just did not make sense why Asus would prevent the hardware in their machines to be fully used. However, it seems like they have now corrected this glaring error in judgment and in my opinion, it's about time!

well some of the chipsets in use at that time of Vista launch couldn't address all 4GB so 64-bit was a moot point then anyway. but this is good to see now

YES! It's about time.

cheers ...

Agreed and since Asus likes to have prohibitive costs for upgrades even more welcome. Then again you used to be able to upgrade through M$ for like $10 in the past so those who needed had some options. Me stuck with 32bit 4GB RAM and 1GB GPU. Oh well.
