Why can't I change my email address?

Thread Starter
When I tried to register, I was blocked because my email is from a free server. The only reason I then registered with my work email was because the notice said I would be able to change it once I was registered.

Guess what I was told when I tried to change it?

Same thing with me... and my isp doesn't provide me with an email address either, so I'm now stuck on the temporary one.

Banning free email providers in this day and age is old fashioned and stupid... heck my work mail is based on google apps.

There is always a reason for anything behind any forums decisions, its style and characteristics. Feeling "Old fashioned and stupid" for a few potential members does not translate to automatic understanding how a forum (NBF) is being run.

cheers ...

We have only banned e-mail domains that have been used by large numbers of spammers. Unfortunately, sometimes the spammers hurt other members by requiring us to block e-mail address domains that are used by the spammers. While I apologize for your inconvenience, the intent is to act for the greater good of the site and protection from an overabundance of spam.

You can do other tricks for that though, like using captcha for the first 10 posts for example.

It is not full proof, spammers have a (automated) way to defeat this mechanism.

UGH! Same problem here....

I never use my other emails and now it won't take my gmail as promised after registration.. and when I clicked on the page that returns the error that I can't use that email address, the webmaster email that it has an a href link to doesn't work either..

Perhaps I will message the guy who fixed yours and see what happens....

You can send a private message to me or to any other admin (red username) and we can fix that for you.
