Darn, if only they push to install a 280M in there, then it would be really sweet

A few things that sucks about this is

1. It is 7lbs!
2. It is 1.7" thick

otherwise, I would love to pick it up. It isn't too bad of a deal.

Those specs and that price? I would like 1" thick higher resolution and 280m also. But at that cost I understand why not happening.

I mostly hope this drives down the price of all. Great deal.

Hi!
I'm looking into getting a Quad Core Laptop these days and I want it in the 15" to 16" range... So far the DV6T looks to be a solid choice, good bang for the cbuck and reliable... Am I right?

What do you guys think? Any other or better suggestions? I've never owned an HP...

Also what is the platform it is based on? I can't find that info so far...

I know you can upgrade from HP to a i7-820QM CPU. But can it be upgraded to the i7-920XM CPU? Will it be compatible, "pug and play" no problem...? I don't care if it void's the warranty, I just want to know if it can be done no problem...

Thanks for your help...!

You can always try with the "max" CPU upgrade. But my take is that it would work with no pain.

I found this on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...22_.2845_nm.29

If you look under Quad Mobile Processor almost at the bottom of that page. They are under the Clarksfield platform ( I thing that's the name of the platform, right?). All core i7's (720QM, 820QM & 920XM) support a socket PGA-989.

But when you go onto intel web site: http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?id...2,43124,43126,

It says socket PGA-988..!

So witch one is it, 988 or 989? Is there a mistake on one of those webpage, or both sockets, 988 & 989, exists and are maybe the same...?

I go with the Intel page - socket 988 it is!

Another link confirming the "988" presentation.

I'm just off chatting with HP tech support and they said:

" I have checked with the information and HP do provide i7-820QM Quad core processor, and the motherboard do support the latest one i7-920XM, however we would not recommend the processor to be upgraded manually."

Of course then they said:

"The reason for this would be, it might void the standard warranty and HP would not be responsible for causes, hope you understand the same."

Anybody have an idea of the best place/website to get a coupon code for the DV6T..?

I've been trying a bunch, maybe I'm not looking at the right place, but they're either invalid or expired all the time... none works...!

Patso a little info. Clarksfield is not a platform it is a codename for some Intel mobile CPU's based on the Nehalem micro architecture. The platform is called Centrino like all Intel mobile platforms includes a CPU, chipset and wifi. Centrino i7 to be exact. But if you want to know it's "codename" that would be Calpella. Most of us in everyday usage refer to the CPU and chipset as we don't really care much about if it is actually branded Centrino. The codename does tell me that. More than you wanted know I am sure.

On putting i7920 in that HP? Sure it will physically fit fine. But it runs hotter than the i7 720&820 and if the HP's thermal solution is not designed for could cause issue. The i7's are more unique than the Core 2 with thermal stress. One of the best features of the mobile i7's is turbo. That dynamically alters clocks based on thermal considerations. It up clocks when using less cores because the thermal stress is less and it can handle. Well with an inadequate thermal solution even when running on less than all cores you could see turbo not working or not working to the fullest. That could defeat the purpose of getting a faster extreme. Intel has clearly documented that for the turbo to function fully thermal solution is critical and they do not guarantee it will function as spec'd. That is of course because they don't design or build thermal solutions.

On a further point HP has sort of a history of overheating MoBo failures. So increasing thermal stress not the best brand to play with.
