upgrading to windows 7, will it wipe my installation partition of vista?

Hi, i am pondering around the idea of upgrading to windows 7, i currently have a acer 7720g laptop, which has a intel core 2 duo cpu @ 2ghz, 4 gb ram etc.. the laptop has a vista instalation on the partition somewhere so if i want to reinstall vista theres a command i press, cant think of it now, and it lets me wipe the laptop and reinstall vista from the partition, my question is, if i install a fresh cope of windows 7 will it wipe this partition so i am unable to put vista back on if i ever wanted / needed to?

thanks

if you choose to remove that partition it will go away, however it should stay there otherwise. it might use some unusual behavior in the MBR to boot to it though and that could possibly screw it up, but if you have the Vista disc you could boot to that instead and have it load up that image

Hi, is there anyway for me to create a image of my drive as soon as vista is installed incase it does mess it up?
i am getting win 7 tonight, im still a little concerned about losing my d2d partition, will it only effect me if i do a clean install, may this delete my d2d recovery partition, will upgrading not effect this at all rather than clean installs, its the upgrade verson i am getting, but im led to beleive you can choose to do a clean install and a upgrade install.

does anyone whos seen the windows 7 setup know if a drive management screen shows at all showing the d2d recovery and ask if you want to keep / delete it?

you can make your own image easily enough by following these instructions: http://www.notebookforums.com/thread214725.html

in most cases (not all) that is how the restore partitions for Vista are done, and you can simply grab a copy of that image from the recovery partition and store it away somewhere else in case you need it.

thanks for the fast reply, i shall look at that link when i get home from work, can you then just boot from the disc once you have created one?
