wont you void the warrenty?

10 pages long?

maybe Acer deserves its own forum section?

how would i void warranty? unless they're there when i switch the drive... HEHE :>. If i ever need to send the unit back to Acer i can easily put old parts back in. The only thing that could be a problem is if the drive is in the foil instead of metal case. Otherwise u can change parts w/o leaving a trace

Regardless of the fact that you void the warrenty by upgrading. If i do spend the money to buy a 7200 RPM HHD and 1 Gig of RAM. I'm still left with 2x256 megs of RAM and a 4200 RPM HDD that i don't need or want so i'm out their cost in cash. I could sell to recoup my money but if something goes wrong i'll need the origional parts to stick back in and return the computer.

While i know some people are able to spend money like water, i'm poor so i have to be frugle.

Yes, the faster the hard drive, the more battery life that is drained, although we're talking about no more than a few minutes.
However, something that is really great is that the 7K60 drives (7200rpm) actually run cooler than the 5400 and 4200 due to their technology advancements (or whatever)

And which technology is that? :>
And no you dont void your warranty by replacing HD.
I never said that you void your warranty by replacing your hard drive. And as for the technology that is utilized, I have no idea . I do know that the 7200rpm hard drives do run much cooler for a fact.

I wasnt refering to you when i was talking about warranty, but many people here think it'll be voided when it wont. Replacing Ram and HD wont void your warranty. Read the Manual, also my friend called Acer today and they said it wont be voided.

If you do swap the 80GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive for something else, how much $$ (if any) could you get for it from ebay or some place like that??
Hey, here's an interesting question. If PCTorque puts a 5400rpm drive instead of 4200rpm in those laptops, wouldnt it void the warranty?(like Adam says) And if it does in fact and they cant touch the laptop, what would they offer instead of 5400rpm mistake? Because I for one, put an order for a laptop with 5400rpm, is exactly what it says on my invoice, and i'm expecting just that with fully warranty.
Well I just e-mailed Acer asking them if it will void warranty. Now I only have to wait atleast until the 21st because thats when the first ones come to finland.

I'm sure that pctorque is an Acer repair place so they do not void the warrenty if they open it.

Plus, Acer said that it does NOT void the warrenty if you swap hard drives or RAM.

Is the same true for the two slots of RAM? I still don't understand why they won't let you configure your own.

same true as what? the post says: it wont void your warranty if u swap hd and ram. Manual states up to 2gb of ram, and theres no way to achive it w/o replacing 2nd slot.

Hey Adam, if that's true why won't Acer or PCTorque let us configure the notebooks?

you guys are gonna love this...
i called pctorque yesterday (spoke to tom in sales) and they said that replacing the hard drive WOULD void the warranty.

so if acer says no, and pctorque says yes...

adam, wanna clear this all out definitively?
