Will PCTorque sell the Acer Ferrari 3200? - Page 3

Thread Starter
From reading the manual and comparing it with the Ferrari 3000 it seems that only one memory slot is easily accessable. To get to the other memory slot it looks like you'll have to take half the notebook apart. Ugh!

I really hope PCTorque allows us to purchase it preconfigured.

I'm really only wanting a gig of ram anyways so as long as they can stick an extra stick of 512 in there before they ship it to me, it's all good. Still though... I hope PCtorque will do it themselves... I would rather not have to worry about static frying the inside of my $2000 baby...

Does anyone have any input on things like:

- The sturdiness of the case?

- The quality of the screen?

- The overall design/build quality (versus a Hypersonic GX6 / Sager 5690)?

- The reliability of Acer?

Acer is a relatively reliable company, I have no first hand experience with them, but their customers seem happy and unlike many manufacturers, they actually make their own notebooks (in a factory that they own). The ferrari 3200 is a very similar to the Aspire 8003 (as long as its similar to the f3000) which is nicely built.

The only down-sides that I see from looking at the spec's (thanks for the link, BTW) are:

- 8-cell battery
- No DVI connector
- Only a 1400x1050 resolution on the screen

The AMD64, however, trumps all of those concerns for me. I think this may be "the one."

One review I read said that the case felt like it was very high quality with no "creakiness" like there is in some Dells. As for the overall build quality... I would imagine it doesn't go through the same 72 hour burn-ins and ultra quality control like a hypersonic would, but we're not paying hypersonic prices here either. The design of the thing though is pretty impressive imo.

Wow! I just converted the size specs from mm to inches: 12.9x10.6x1.2

That's tiny!

Here you can find an AMD press release about the new Athlon64 low voltage processors:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Corporate/V...~84932,00.html
These processors will only have 35W TDP and Acer is the first company which integrate them in notebooks.
I think that the new Ferrari 3200 will reach about 4 hours battery life with the new low voltage processors.

Bye

wow 35w is pretty low

thats almost near the voltage that the current p-m are running at

dothan however is suppose to even go lower and near the 20's i think

i wonder if these 'true mobile' cpus can be reto fitted into existing DTR type notebooks

that article is pretty recent...

ferrari gonna be the first to use it... nice

Ok that article definately soothed my fears about heat and battery life... all that's left to do now is work 55 hours a week at my summer job and wait for the 3200 to be released

they said they won't do it. acer only offers it as is. i asked them if they'd be willing to up the ram and hd for me after i bought it and they said no.

how much would it cost to upgrade the ram at a local comp store up to 1024. i could do it myself for a desktop but i don't trust myself on a laptop since i've never owned one before.

oh and along those lines...does the brand of RAM you buy make a difference. i.e. is Kingston better than a no-name brand?
replacing ram aint no biggie
i hope it gets processed soon, i put on next day air shipping :-D
will post review once i get it
can someone tell me if there's a difference between brands of RAM?
yes kingston is more reputable...putt ram is easy ..not quite sure how you install hddrive..some you need take out the keyboard ..or some you just simply unlock it and slide it out..depends on chasis...anyways i love the specs overall...but hddrive speed is really a bummer.with 5400 rpm..
