Will PCTorque sell the Acer Ferrari 3200? - Page 5

first thing I will do with this laptop is remove the ferrari sticker

remove ferrari sticker? eek i love the sticker ))) , and the looks. beats the gloomy gray/silver wah wah design. I had my eye on this baby for so long, i sold my alienware pretty much for this baby. its awesome )) i hope the case is very durable , since i'll be taking it to work every day. Anybody konws how much this thing weighs? this just seems like the ultra portable laptop that has top notch vid card for me. 64bit BABY YEAHH!!

I have a question, does anyone know where i can find a clean picture of 3200 keyboard layout, I want to know how HOME and END are accessed. Whether you have to press FN + key to get to these, because that would be VERY uncomfortable for me since i program, and in order to do a selection from END to HOME i'd have to hold SHIFT+FN+KEY

OK, for the curious, here's how the stock 3200 looks when added to my chart. Even with the slower (but larger) HDD and the need for a RAM upgrade; it still looks like the best deal to me.

hmm, under 'extra', the 3200 has gigabyte ethernet too

Acer mentioned this on their website for their notebooks. I am quite certain that this is an Acer policy being passed on to the end-user by pctorque.com.
Since pctorque.com does not have this policy for Sager notebooks, that would make sense that it is the manufacturer's policy.
No idea on testing.

Anyone knows what this "policy" includes? Is this a warranty or do they test the screen before shipping, if so, how?

Will the Athlon64 2800+ run with a 1600mhz bus speed or an 800mhz bus speed?
1600
Dude, I think I'm gonna get one.

already ordered it and can't wait... slot loading drive *drool*

thinking maybe I should change to overnight shipping ($80!?), i am going to Cali on 21st and I would like to take it with me

im curious as to see how the m11 will perform with the ferrari chassis/setup

so far the only other m11 in an athlon64 system (the arima/ voodoo m860) gets the same clocks as the m11 in pentium-m systems (460/230 max)

i find it wierd that the p4 systems hooked up to m11 will get much higher clock rates interms of memory (i think this might be due to the larger power avail and cooling properties)

So, to summarize, it is:
Faster video than eMachines M6809; Slower CPU; Slot-loading 4X DVD +/- RW; we don't really know how hot it will run; and its RED, repeat RED!!
Sounds pretty cool, don't think I could talk myself into the RED, but...

no one has really answered my 2 questions:

when upgrading:
1) is there a reason to choose name brand (i.e. Kingston or what-not) over 3rd party RAM?

2) can you directly swap the 80 gig stock HD for a 7200 Hitachi?

also...are there 2 free slots for RAM or will you have to buy 2x 512 and take out the old ones to get 1024?

thanks

1) is there a reason to choose name brand (i.e. Kingston or what-not) over 3rd party RAM? quality ram is always good vs unknown brands

2) can you directly swap the 80 gig stock HD for a 7200 Hitachi?

you can, but in the manual they recommend to contact Acer tech support for that, so I assume it could be pretty tricky

I am worried about one thing here, since the mods of the forum are from pctorque.com and I want to test the laptop on it's overclockability would it void the warranty? I am not going to overclock it and keep it overclocked, just to test it if I have good GPU.

I know I don't have to mention this... but I am being honest
post #96 of 182
that brings up another question, does upgrading the RAM or HD void the warranty as well?

too bad it's not a sticker. it's a recessed plastic emblem.

unfortunately it's FN+PgUp for Home, FN+PgDown for End... the two keys are either side of the up arrow

teg,
the ferrari has two memory slots, both of which come shipped with a 256mb stick in it. therefore if you want to upgrade the memory to 1024mb, youd have to pull out both sticks and put in new 512mb ones in both slots, thus pretty much wasting the 256mb sticks.

you get the feeling acer really doesn't want us thumbing around the insides of their laptops?

regardless, ill probably be picking one of these up, but not until some of the dothan notebooks start coming out. figure if the ferrari won't ship until the 15th, might as well wait it out till the 10th to see what the dothan brings to the table...

cool, thanks for the explanation annoyance!

just one more thing, does switching out the RAM or HD void warranty?
not the outside piece of ram, and no for the hard drive as well

if you change the inside ram though, you void the warantee.
