hello.
about a week ago i spilled coke on my siemens lifebook 8010 laptop.
well i was lucky to not damage the system (shut it, then flipped over immediately).
But still the keyboard is sticky. when i push a button it stays there for 1-2 sec.
what can i do? there are a lot of topics about it in the internet but so many different ways to fix. i just wanted to hear it from you guys.

"Correct" way (as was done by tech support guy than I spilled coffee on the desktop keyborad) is to remove keyborad, rinse it in the water thoroughly and dry it (usually take week or two, if you are not using some kind of heating)
If you can remove keyboard but don't want wait (at least days even with heater) you can take slips of clean paper and carefully scratch underside of sticky buttons with it. The same if you can not/don't want remove keyboard, but it would be less convenient. I did it with my laptop keyborad then some buttons got sticky - I coudn't remove keyborad because the screw were ripped by factory. (Dell XPS M1710)

From what you described, I would go with serg3d's suggestion. Remove the keyboard and rinse it, dry it with hair dryer and a few days in the air.

cheers ...

hmm k.
well here's the thing the laptop is not mine. and have to return it due to a job change. (thats why i'm lookin for a new laptop )
so i'll try to give them the laptop and tell them to fix it themselves. but if they say i have to fix then return to them, i'll do what serg3d said.

My suggestion:

Remove the keyboard and rinse it with ALCOHOL. It will clean better than water and it will dry way faster.

Cheers!

I like Ericko's suggestion better than just water. But I think water with a mild detergent then rinse would also work. I do not think drying time is such a big issue. Distilled water and detergent is another option but really not necessary.

The thing with water is that it could cause some corrossion. That's why I prefer alcohol, since it dries fast and it doesn't damage electronics.

I think your offer is good. But alcohol only offers the breakdown of the contaminate. The advantage of water with a detergent is the surfactant aspect. I really think with soda detergent is better than alcohol. Rust? Not in this short time frame. I mean not the keys? Plastic, correct.

Its only powder, can't you vacuum it up. LOL.
But seriously i did the same a few years ago, the keyboard will never be the same again (Keys sticking) , i suggest you try and get a replacement keyboard
