I am not familiar with the Inspiron 9300, but a good general rule to follow is if Dell didn't ever release Vista drivers for your system, you may not have a smooth ride moving to 7. You can usually use part manufacturer drivers if they are available.

Or, download and run the Win7 Upgrade Adviser from Microsoft and it will scan all your hardware and software - then spit out a report on what's hunk dory and what's not kosher with Windows 7.

Hope that helps!

I figured that out. I had bought a new HD so I could both do a clean upgrade and also be able to fall back to XP if things did not go, well.

I had already done that and it gave me some but not full warning. It seems to assume that the user is doing an upgrade from XP in place, not a clean from scratch install. So it did not catch everything.
All of the hardware in this system except the bluetooth module was supported nativly by Win7, but there was still a need for some of the vendor specific utilities that provide the enhanced functionality. EG. The touchpad works, but no scroll area, and no way to control things line tap to select.
I am very disappointed in Dell for not steping up and effectively abandoning existing customers. It would not have taken much to fill in the few blanks in hardware functionality support.
Dell Quickset
Dell Support Center
TouchPad utility
BlueTooth

Thanks again, at least I now have Bluetooth audio in XP SP3.

There is no direct "upgrade" from XP to 7. Even with the Win7 upgrade disc it does a 'clean' install when coming from XP.

Start=>type "Services" Enter => Find "Bluetooth Support Service" right click "Properties", then Startup type put on"Automatic" and Service status click "Start", OK => Restart your Dell (if BTtray vanish just run dell driver installation again and thats it)

I tried this on Dell Studio 1555 with 370 Bluetooth module and Dell Studio 1558 with 365 Bluetooth module

Enjoy in your working BT

M65 - Thank you, thank you, thank you.  The Toshiba tricked worked on my old Dell D610 with the Bluetooth 350.  Nothing else worked except that.  Got my Bluetooth Logitech Wireless Keyboard-track-Mouse Mediaboard PRO (sold really for the PS3) working perfectly.  Windows 7 Ultimate.  Excellent.  Thanks again!

HI M65, thank you very much. It worked like a charm in my Latitude D630 with Windows 7.
