Toshiba Satellite A75-S1253 Shuts Down During Restore

Unmodified A75 using brand new factory-shipped Windows XP recovery CD.

Deleted partition on HDD, ran recovery disc.

Recovery goes fine until it gets to a file called "drivers.cab" and shuts down.

Reboot, problem repeats.

Suggestions for a workaround appreciated.

Symptom is consistent with either a bad drive or a bad installation disk.

I would go with a bad install disk, since I checked the HDD.

But, in the last hour, the real problem surfaced, the A-series overheating problem. Letting the machine sit for a half hour to cool was enough to complete the install. Now, it's cooling again to complete all the initialization routines.

And I thought my Compaq 700-series was a blowtorch!

Thanks for taking the time for a suggestion.

New learning thing each day

You might want to take the thing apart and do some serious cleaning and applying new thermal paste. Glad to hear that you had the issue resolved.

cheers ...
