Acer Aspire - 5630 Windows 7 Question.

Thread Starter
I downgraded this last year to run Win XP, now thinking about wipping it and turning it into a W7 machine.

http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers...k/ex_5630.html

Problem is no compatible drivers, i don't want to load W7 and get a big surprise that it doesn't work on this laptop.

any suggestions has anyone done a W7 upgrade yet?

How about getting another drive and give it a shot? You might be the 1st one this model.

Have you run the W7 upgrade adviser?

Yes i ran the advisor the only problem was with, the AERO not working otherwise everything else is ok.

I bought the Home Premium OEM, bad move! what version should i have gotten in order to install windows on multiple PC's? Family pack or FULL?

I still have my laptop and my home network PC to do.

Family pack is the best deal at the moment for up to 3 systems.

I have a 5630 and have been running W7 since beta with no problems what so ever, the drivers load in straight away, the only thing I had to sort was Launch Manager, but even then you just use the Vista version.
Aero runs fine too, assuming you have the same graphics card as me then there are new drivers just out for that too

I'm confused as to what to do now? family pack is just an upgrade, so how will i go about getting a full version again?

I guess im confused at the part i've already formatted both machines, can i install using the same home premium i already used on the other laptop, and use one of the family pack keys?

You should be able to, just don't activate the other (installed) one during/before the upgrade.

But my questions is what do i need to install, in order to have 3 full working PC's. In other words i have other pc's that need an install but i don't want to do an upgrade.

I want a clean slate.

Let me try to clarify about W7 upgrade disk.

The Upgrade DVD can do either a Clean or upgrade install. The Upgrade DVD contains the entire operating system just like the full version product. The only difference with the Upgrade DVD is that it requires that you have a qualifying version of Windows 2000, XP or Vista installed.

This is where the ticker comes in. The "clean" install mentioning above is just that, "clean" over a "just installed previous OS version" with no update drivers, no extra apps, nothing! This means that you will need to install drivers after this "clean" on top of clean installation.

The "upgrade" process is upgrading the current active running system with all its bells and whistles etc ...

In order to make all 3 PCs work with W7 with a "clean" install, all you have to do is performing FIRST a clean install of 2000, XP or Vista. This clean install of 2000/XP/Vista does not require activation or update after a first restart. And this is as clean slate as you can expect!

You cannot perform a "clean" install with W7 upgrade disk on an empty drive/partition.

So could i buy 3 separate OEM builders version of W7 and go about it that way?

Would this be considered a full OEM?

Say i just bought 3 of these, course 1 for each PC. How many times could i do an install in the same PC, also this doesn't seem upgrade but my understanding of OEM means its specific to that PC, so can only be used in that correct?

You can perform as many re/clean installations on the same PC with an OEM as you wish.

Thank You so the OEM from newegg is fine? Any reason as to why the OEM builder is cheaper than Full or retail OS?
... because it stays with the system you put on, whereas full/retail allows you to move from one system to another - providing that the previous system is out of commission

OEM is a one time shot, as they (I) call it If the system dies, the licence dies with it.
