so far i went into the bios an changed both to memory and fsb to 1333 an got my speed up to 2.9? (all test show 3ghz), but with both im having problems like laptop slowing down to 600mhz with fsb of 300.

i also tried leaving the memory at 1066 and changing the fsb to 1333 an still got 2.9?ghz (3.0ghz) and it seems to be running really well but i never overclocked anything before and this is the most expensive laptop or desktop i ever had so i don't want to mess it up.

but i would love to stay at 3.0ghz.

any advice or help or ideas would be really really awesome. ill check back in a little while have to call dell an see if my cc warranty has been transfered yet so could be a while. Thanks!!!

Which processor and which memory do you have? Creating a sig with your system specs would help.

I got the P8600 processor and 4GB DDR3 1066.

I think all your seeing is the CPU down clocking itself when not in use. Intel did that on purpose to save power. If you put a load on your system and look at cpu-z it should show 333.5 as the bus w/ a 9 multi. You see it cut itself in half when not in use.

I would also suggest not touching the speed of the memory unless that is the only way you can OC with stability. Raising it above 1066 will throw your timings out of whack.

is that the only option you have to overclock the cpu is by changing FSB??? i have the T9600 @ 2.8. can this cpu overclock as well?? looks like the bios wont let you change the multiplier..

You can only change the multiplier with extreme processors. It has nothing to do with a BIOS restriction.
