Acer timeline SSD install Ubuntu

I know this has probably already been covered but I am new here and it was hard to find the necessary info I needed in a search. any advice or link in the right direction would be a great help.

Could someone please give advice on how to install this SSD? I would also like to install Ubuntu. Can I put Ubuntu on a usb jump drive and have the Acer boot from the jump drive after SSD is installed?

I have not started the notebook yet...it is brand new. would it be of any benefit to install the SSD before it is ever started for first time?

ubuntu, really? have you used linux before, are you sure this is right for you?

anywho, remove the hdd cover, removed the hdd, transfer the bracket and reinstall.

as for putting ubuntu on a thumb drive, it is possible. might want to do a quick google search for a utility, I am sure there are some out there.

also, might want to check out the netbook version.

i have minimal experience with linux. i thought ubuntu was supposed to be user friendly for people like me?
you wouldn't do it? i guess i was just hoping for a simpler OS that was not as susceptible to junk.

will there have to be a lot done in the bios and stuff after SSD is installed? obviously i do not know about this stuff or i wouldn't have to ask. i am trying to learn. any additional advice? will it be a nightmare to get all the components of my laptop recognized? like the touch pad etc?

it says i need a linux running computer to set up the usb?? i can't do this without a computer already running linux?

also, is any of this simplified by never using the laptop with windows 7? or should i just turn it on for the first time and start using it?

i guess once the SSD is in this will be a moot point, correct?

is anyone free to help over yahoo chat or something?

I personally would just use what you get and enjoy it. You might have a reason for W7, and I am not gonna be involved in it.

i guess i was just sick of microsoft. isn't ubuntu less susceptible to spyware and viruses etc?? i just wanted a nice clean running program.

Not true at all, every OS is susceptible to any bad stuffs One is more than the other, depending on its popularity

You can have a very good and clean running environment with Windows; and safe if you are sensible when on the net.

Use the firewall that comes with Vista, its a good two way and its free.
Use Avast for a Antivirus program it too is very good and its also free (you just have to re-register it every 14 months or so) They will send you an email to tell you when its time and provide a link to go to re-register (easy). Make sure that whatever AV program you have on there now is completely removed (uninstalled) . You will have problems if you try and install two AVs on your machine.
As for spyware, SpywareBlaster is a very good/free utility that stops spyware/adware from initially downloading on your machine. When you download it/install it, you must update it for all the new signatures and also do it every month or so to get the new ones(When you update and it finishes, it will indicate how many unprotected items there are. Just click on the blue link which says "Enable protection for all unprotected it")
Download, install, update and run Malwarebytes periodically to get the few spyware that slide through.
Like any safe surfing and computer usage, it takes a bit of work periodically on the owners part to accomplish this

thanks for the advice.

why am i getting a mixed feeling from everyone? i know i am not as knowledgeable with this stuff, but i have had bad luck with windows...more so i just want change.

i always heard that linux and macs were smoother and less susceptable...regardless of reason...maybe because they are less of a target. what ever case maybe.

i have windows 7. if i do not like ubuntu i can always use 7 again.

am i crazy for not wanting windows 7?
