I'm upgrading my video card to nvidia 8600GT and apperently I need to flashback my bios to v2.06 (my current is 2.07). This laptop was a gift so I dont have access to my hive or anything. I would be very appreciated if anybody could send it to my email xceller8@hotmail.com. Also, does anybody know where can I find the housing for the video card (frame or w/e u call it, i'm kinda newbie to all these things) since it wasnt supported from where i got it.

Thanks a lot for the file. Kinda miss the 4bit color now lol.
Things been working fine so far. The only problem is that I can't seem to change the brightness setting. It always stays on max brightness. Does anybody know if this is normal?

FN key does not work? How are the power settings?

The FN key works for everything else except brightness.
I changed the brightness directly from the power option but no luck.
Could it be because of the driver? I got it from laptopvideo2go.

Hi, I'm also trying to download the bios v2.06 for Alienware m5500 to resolve a graphics card issue but when I click on the link above it says missing or deleted file. Can anyone please help...

Hi....I realize this is an older thread/post, but I'm in a situation where I have an Alienware m5500i-R3 that I got secondhand and it has the bios version 2.04. The screen resolution is 640x480, I believe, and it is stuck on 4 bit color, which has me tearing my hair out.  There are ten vertical rows of dashes(4 lines up & down in each row) across the screen.

I was thinking that this was a graphics card problem, but now think that it is a bios problem, possibly caused by the previous owner not updating the bios properly.

I've clicked on your url to attempt to download a newer bios but it appears to go nowhere or is dead.

Can you help me by possibly sending me the 2.06 or 2.07 bios and the updater program, or do you think I should possibly downgrade to an earlier version bios.

Any help....whether it be a url that will get me the bios/update software, or if you can email me, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Brian

Hi,

Thank you...I was also able to get the 2.07 bios in the meantime and successfully flashed the bios to 2.07. Where can I find info on what the improvements(history) of the bios?

Being a gaming machine, I was under the impression you had a lot of control over settings in the bios for OC'ing it. I was surprised how limited it was.

It seems the bios didn't clear up my problems with the 640x480 - 4 bit resolution limitation and now I have no sound where I had sound before I flashed.  I keep getting...Modem device on High Definition Audio bus coming on boot up.  Have tried to find the proper audio/modem drivers but to no avail.  I went on the Alienware site and found drivers(separate) for audio and modem for the M5500 but not specific to the mm5500i-R3.  They did not work.  Any spot that you know of, where I can find the drivers?  Are they from Realtek and how would I find out what the sound card actually was in my laptop?

I did manage to find a url on the web, but it looks Russian to me and am a bit worried about downloading from there.

Also, since the laptop is out of warranty and I had nothing to lose, I did the "Oven-Bake" method on the MXM card and it was a success. I now have maximum control over the resolution.

Thanks again,

Brian

What is the current OS on the comp? It might have something to do with driver acceptance. Great to hear about the "bake" - welcome to the charlatan bakers group winknudge.gifheadbang.gif

Hi qhn,

I finally got it to accept a driver...WDM-268 from Realtek,  to get sound, but I'm still getting the "Modem Device found on High Definition Audio Bus" at start up.  I'm going to try the modem driver for the m5500 MJ12 (base or earlier model of laptop), but worried it might mess up my audio I have finally got working.....I never use an external modem, but just hate the annoyance of the startup "found new device" messages and the little yellow exclamation mark in device manager.

I am running the Windows MCE 2005 edition. It has 2 gb of ram in it, but is it true, that with the bios version 2.07, that I can swap in 4 gb's?

I'm going to order another MXM board for backup in case the "Baked" card decides it was only "half-baked", LOL

Thanks,

Brian
