Hilarious! After I receive it, I'll be able to tell what the specs are.

At least we're discovering one potential pitfall for people on their second replacement; the replacement is equal or better than the original machine. Should save them a bob or two.

not really with the amount of time they spent with me on teh phone and shipping stuff back and forth i do not think they saved anything. I am not giving up though my original 1705 had a uWXGA 1900x1200 screen but this 1737 hass a 1440x900 and so i called again and they are issuing another replacement as this time when i called they had lost all my information after 2 hours with the guy on the phone he saaid i do not have any warranty and i had to dig up my 2 year old email and dell account info on the dell website to show them that bought extended warranty and than he agreed to do the replacement but this guy was going off the specs of the m1730 and not the 1705 so when i told him that i had 2.4 in the 1730 with a backlit keyboard and the uwxga screen he said he will put all this info in the dipatch ticket and send it up again for approval. two can play this game

Good luck with it all and well done for spotting the screen spec. I think that everyone here is looking for the best resolution for everyone.

I received my notebook today, it it a very nice notebook. I don't like the touchpad it is difficult to use. This is the first Dell that I have received in a long time that I didn't have to send back because of some damage.

My refund has just come through. Full amount.

I've an M17x already specced up with someone in Dell. I need a few days to transfer the cash from my bank account to the card that I want to use, then I'm turning that quote into an order.

That is great new. +1 for DELL

cheers ...

I've just ordered this and it's cost me less than the refund for the M1730.

Alienware M17x : Base Nebula Red
Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo T9800(2.93GHz,1066MHz,6MB L2 Cache)
Display : 17in Wide UXGA (1920X1200) - Beyond HD (1200p)
Memory : 4096MB (2x2048) 1067MHz DDR3 Dual Channel
Hard Drive : 1TB (2x500GB) Free Fall Sensor Raid 0 "Stripe"(7200RPM) Dual HDD
Optical Drive : Slot Load Blu-Ray ROM Combo (Blu-ray read only, DVD, CD read and write) Drive
Graphics : SLI Dual 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M
Wireless : European Dell Wireless 1510 (802.11 n) Half Mini Card
Wireless : Europe Dell Bluetooth 370 Card
Operating System : English Genuine Windows 7 Ultimate (64 BIT)

I thought that this gave me reasonable value for my cash right now. Any upgrades to this spec came at a premium that I didn't feel like paying.

Good for you that you were able to still have some cash left over from the refund, it worked out good for you. How long before you get your new system?

Apparently the hard disks aren't available, so the provisional delivery date is the 13th of January. However, it's Christmas and I don't expect these disks to be unavailable until then.

I guess the good thing is that you got your refund and can get the kind of notebook you want.

That's it exactly. Since the money turned up on Saturday afternoon, I've been in control.

I got a decent replacement but I would have taken a refund because I would have been able to get a good replacement and still have money left over but at least I got my replacment it only took about 8 weeks all together so sooner than most people.

I have a question... I understand that most like me got their 1710/1730 for gaming, does the 1640 not do gaming very well?

The reason I ask is I was looking and if they offer me a 1640 with a 1080p screen and the ATI 4670 to replace my 1710...I'll take it! It seems like a nice laptop and I personally would like something a bit smaller than the 1710

well the way i see it is a 1640 is a decent laptop but if you can get a m17x that you can sell and buy a smaller 1640 and save money and i am talking atleast a grand than why not
