Changed LCD screen - still problems!

Hi there,

I got a replacement LCD screen for my inspiron 1545 laptop after the original was smashed by an 'object inside lid' type accident.

First, the new screen flickered (loose connector?) but that has now stopped.

Next the screen seems quite dim but not black or needing to use a torch. Is it just fn and up arrow to fix that?

And finally when first installed the screen image was perfect (apart from flicker) but now the desktop seems pixellated - any text or logos look pixellated. Load Word or similar and no problems at all. I didn't update the video driver from the original one, so should I?!

HELP!!

Hook your notebook to an external monitor and see if any differences first.

externals

Hi qhn,

Many thanks for replying. I'll try the external tonight - did manage to brighten the screen using the rather obvious function keys marked with a brightness symbol.

This is really my wife's laptop so I'm not that familliar with it yet. The new screen that's in was definately a different design to the old one. It's down as a generic PnP device...

I'll get back later with what happened with the external.

Thanks again,

Soggy

external monitor

Hi there,

I plugged in an old monitor, VGA, I assume but will try to check. The image is perfect. Now I understand what my wife is going on about!

I surmise: not the laptop video hardware or the laptop motherboard. Either a defective or self damaged new replacement screen. Or a driver? Cables? Connection?

It knew and identified the old VGA monitor but does not know the new internal screen because it's newer than itself? The thing actually changed the display settings to the best the old external monitor could provide....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

That LCD is defect for sure, and specifically possible of failing back-lights. Can you get it replaced (again)?

Hi there,

I'll check to see what I can find out from the very well known company I recomended to my wife to buy the replacement screen from. It wasn't Dell and this general screen replacement business does not seem so simple any more.

I do not see what I did wrong!

Thanks again!

I'll report back with what happened. There does not seem to be very much comment on this sort of replacement on the web in general...

BTW, the new screen brightness is fine. It was adjusted.

It's the colour balance and pixellated icons on the desktop...

Not in any application apart from those that use images...

Not sure if that's any help?

Contact the seller, explain the situation and see if there is some sort of warranty/replacement.

Hi there qhn,

I did so and they seem most helpful so far. I'm to send a photo of the screen as a first step.

Best regards,

Soggy
