m17x possible design flaw? Or OCD?

I noticed on my computer that the Command Center strip isn't even accross the top of the computer and tends to be "raised" in certain areas.

I made a connection between the screws that are holding it in place from the bottom of the machine. At first I thought it was my eyes playing tricks on me, but it is indeed uneven and seems 'raised' in spots.

I checked several pictures of different people's M17Xs and they all seem to have this un-eveness with the command center strip.

Looking at it from left to right, its even then slightly drops where the screw holds it in place then continues evenly until it reaches the other screw then seems to raise slightly where the eject button, sound, etc. buttons are then continues to its finish. In this area, there also seems to be a slight bump which seems to be cause by the hardware packed underneath.

My concern is I don't know if this 'raised' area is raised enough to possible scratch the screen in some way...

I've included a picture. If all of you with an M17X could take a look at this area of your laptops and tell me if you also have this slight raised area, it would be appreciated. As I stated, I've seen it on every M17X pic i have come accross and I want to make sure its not my OCD but infact is a slight uneveness...

So weird Dave, you sure you don't see a slight bump in the area that I circled? I've seen it on a few m17x pictures floating around the net...

Hmmm, well, right now I use the keyboard protector that came with the computer. My new command strip should be here tomorrow or Monday. I'll keep you posted as to the status after I install the 2nd new one... sigh...

They are mailing the part tomorrow so I'll have it by Monday (next day delivery, but no Saturdays). I'll install the new piece and see if the bump persists. If it does, then its obviously a universal issue and people just aren't as anal as me haha

Has it been removed before? It tilts in from the front to the back, meaning one of the little plastic lip thingys might not have gone in first.

Removed it the first time, old one had the bump too that was factory installed. When I dropped the first one in, it went in the right way, so I know it wasn't my installation, rather the part or the design itself.

I figured out why its like that. The Command Center strip is even before installation. However, when you install it, the trick is to not tighten the screws from the bottom too tightly or it will pull the center of the Command Strip down giving it the "uneven" or "raised" look.

I do remember tightening the screws from the bottom VERY tight the first time I installed it, which obviously warpped the strip itself.

Now this is just a theory. When I get the new Command Center strip on Monday, I won't tighten the screw on the bottom, just give them a comfortable fit and see if the issue repeats itself.

This is also a warning to those who love to take their comps apart *cough* NWGuru *cough*.

So finally after two weeks of waiting, I got the command center strip, installed, no more raised area. Must have been that particular strip. My question is, when I installed it, and put in the two screws from the bottom, I didn't tighten them hard at all, just slightly. Is this gonna be a problem?
