A215-S7444 Upgrading parts and needs some help

Hey guys, i'm new here and really to the whole upgrading laptop parts. i love taking things apart and putting them back together and really don't think this little endeavor i find myself in will be to difficult to handle by myself. but i do need some assistance, mostly in checking some of my work. My notebook is 2 years old and was my first, and i've been using it regularly everyday. i'm a sophomore at OSU and have almost all my notes saved to Office on either Power Point or Word. yesterday, Office decided not to work, i deleted the program, reinstalled it, and it just kept crashing, saying something might be wrong with my Hard drive. and i've been meaning to upgrade to 7 for a while because i get it for $30 so i was just gonna buy a new hard drive, 4gb upgrade, and i need my right side USB card because it's faulty. i did some investigation and found i need:

2 2GB 200PIN SO-DIMM DDR PC2-6400 about $100
I haven't decided on a brand or capacity of hard drive yet. Maybe you guys can give me some input on that. I'd really appreciate it. But i want a 7200RPM w/ a seek time less than 12ms, of course it's a SATA 2.5"
And Windows 7 64bit- i was wondering if i should just burn it to a DVD or upload it to a thumb drive?
i'm going to be doing a clean install and i heard flash drives are quicker. you input is appreciated.

Also, i am looking to upgrade my CPU from AMD Turion64X2 TL-58 to the TL-68 model. It's a difference of .5Ghz. i'm not sure it'll make a difference, but if the price is good, who knows. ANd if i do find the Tl-68, it runs 4w warmer, but i always have my notebook on an external fan so i don't think it'll be an issue, but the CPU is not really a necessity.

Well, that's my story. Thank you for your time and any and all input is greatly appreciated.

I would personally stay with PC5300 ram modules and pop in a total of 4gigo.

Hard drive - Seagate, Western Digital? go with the good cheap 320gigo drive and you will be set.

Then run it for a while before looking into upgrading the CPU.

cheers ...

Nothing says that you cannot try the higher speed ram, I personally tend to stay with OEM specs, as my OC days are pretty over And in worst case, they will throttle down. I did not realize that you can get the higher speed ram with at the same price.

so you think my idea's will work fine for me for the next few years? i just want this laptop to last me as long as possible. i believe the motherboard was replaced under warranty one year ago. the laptop itself is 2 years old

Why not? I still own and use many 5-6 years old notebooks that still perform brilliantly. And their specs are not even as good as yours.

what about if i use 64bit w/ 4gb upgrade, will my 1.9Ghz CPU utilize/see 4GB if it was originally used for a 32bit/2GB setup?

It's an AMD Turion64 X2 TL-58 1.9GHz right now using 2GB 32 bit Vista

Yes. The Turion is a 64bits based CPU.

i think i also need a DUAL USB port board for the right side. the reason i think i do is because no devices are recognized, however they are recognized on the left side. but i do get power out of the right side, but that's all i get. do you think i should replace them?

I found this, but it doesn't say A215-S7444 compatible. but it looks like it will work. what do you think? thanks

You think that you can take the notebook apart and verify the design?

The only eBay item (#270361747449) I see is the closest one to what Laptoprepairco offers. Price is not so much different. I would stay with Laptoprepairco for peace of mind.

cheers ...
