dv6000....DEAD

A friend of my g/f gave me her computer to fix. She said she took it to Best Buy and they said her HD is messed up. Now, if I order a new drive and the restore disks from HP, will that fix this issue? She is not worred about losing any data. Is my thinking correct? Install new HD, put in restore disks, start it up and follow the directions. Thanks in advance.

I would go with a new drive and borrow an installation disk somewhere then use the COA key underneath for activation. If it is only the drive that is bad.

Thanks for the response. Just not 100% sure I follow. I don't know anyone with the disks, so would I just be able to order the restore disks from HP and use them?

I guess you could. I don't know how it would work if one is not the original owner. How about look into an OEM licence? Compare the cost on both options and see.

The restore disks are only 14.95 from HP.... Just trying to keep it cheap b/c I am doing it as a favor and don't want to spent to much on a system that isnt mine.

In my personal experience the HP restore discs are garbage. Mine got stuck in the "infinite" loop where they never stop trying to restore...it's a well documented problem. Your fastest bet would just be to pirate whatever OS that came with the computer (make sure to look for "untouched" "not pre cracked" downloads), and then activate with your key on the bottom.

1) Pirate the Windows .iso.
2) Burn it to a disc.
3) Follow normal reinstall procedures, using the key on the bottom of the laptop.

tch tch tch ... I am sure that it will be much easier to borrow. Downloading ISO from doggy sites can cause more harm than good. Luck is not a good percentage in this case.
